Quello che vi propongo oggi è uno studio di gamba sinistra di un’opera che poi scolpii. Riuscite a capire di quale scultura si tratta?

Era circa il 1524 quando tracciai a carboncino nero su carta questa modellatura magistrale di una gamba, definendo con cura le parti muscolari e ossee, separandole adeguatamente da quelle carnose.

Prima di metter mano ai marmi destinati alla Sagrestia Nuova, studiai a lungo le figure che avevo intenzione di scolpire nel marmo. In particolare questo è lo studio dettagliato della gamba sinistra del Giorno.

Oggi il foglio in questione appartiene al Teylers Museum di Haarlem ma ha subito numerosi passaggi di proprietà. Pensate che appartenne anche a Cristina di Svezia e al principe Odescalchi.

The study of a leg for a sculpture

What I am proposing to you today is a study of the left leg of a work that I then sculpted. Can you figure out which sculpture it is?

It was around 1524 when I traced this masterful modeling of a leg in black charcoal on paper, carefully defining the muscular and bony parts, separating them adequately from the fleshy ones.

Before setting my hand on the marbles destined for the New Sacristy, I studied for a long time the figures that I intended to sculpt in marble. In particular this is the detailed study of the left leg of the Day.

Today the sheet in question belongs to the Teylers Museum in Haarlem but has undergone numerous changes of ownership. Think that it also belonged to Christina of Sweden and to Prince Odescalchi.
