26 gennaio: San Zanobi e quella colonna davanti al Battistero
Oggi 26 gennaio a Firenze si ricorda San Zanobi e la fiorita. Ne avete mai sentito parlare? Se siete di Firenze sicuramente sì.
Avete presente quella colonna che si trova fra il duomo di Santa Maria del Fiore e il Battistero? Magari ci siete passati chissà quante volte sotto e vi siete domandati pure che ci facesse proprio in quel punto. Ebbene, quella è proprio la Colonna di San Zanobi, messa lì per ricordare un evento a metà fra i l leggendario e il miracoloso.
Era il 26 gennaio del 429 quando le spoglie di San Zanobi vennero spostate: dal duomo di San Lorenzo avrebbero raggiunto la nuova chiesa di Santa Reparata, quella che oggi è stata sostituita da Santa Maria del Fiore.
Secondo l’antica leggenda, i resti del santo passarono davanti a un olmo che per miracolo fiorì. Per ricordare quell’evento venne eretta lì dove c’era quel vecchio olmo la colonna in marmo sormontata dalla croce che potete vedere tutt’oggi.
In origine la croce fu realizzata con il legno dello stesso olmo ma da tempo è stata sostituita con una copia in pietra.
Ogni anno, il 26 gennaio, a Firenze si ricorda il Santo e questo evento miracoloso.
Alle ore 10 e 50 ha inizio il corteo storico da Palagio di Parte Guelfa per arrivare dopo differenti tappe alla deposizione della corona proprio ai piedi della Colonna di San Zanobi alle 11 e 15 con tanto di spettacolo dei Bandierai degli Uffizi.

Today January 26 in Florence we remember San Zanobi and the fiorita. Have you ever heard about it? If you are from Florence definitely yes.
Do you know that column that is located between the cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore and the Baptistery? Maybe you’ve passed who knows how many times under it and wondered what it was doing right there. Well, that is precisely the Column of San Zenobius, placed there to commemorate an event halfway between the legendary and the miraculous.
It was 26 January 429 when the remains of San Zanobi were moved: from the cathedral of San Lorenzo they would have reached the new church of Santa Reparata, the one that has now been replaced by Santa Maria del Fiore.
According to the ancient legend, the remains of the saint passed in front of an elm which miraculously blossomed. To commemorate that event, the marble column surmounted by the cross that you can still see today was erected where that old elm was. Originally the cross was made with the wood of the same elm but it has long since been replaced with a stone copy.
Every year, on January 26th, the Saint and this miraculous event are remembered in Florence. At 10.50 the historical procession from the Palagio di Parte Guelfa begins to arrive after various stages at the deposition of the crown right at the foot of the Column of San Zanobi at 11.15 complete with a show by the Bandierai degli Uffizi.
