In queste ore la zona Nord di Los Angeles è avvolta dalle fiamme. Un enorme incendio ha già devastato 500 ettari di terreno e le fiamme continuano a espandersi.

La situazione è drammatica: l’incendio ha raggiunto le colline del quartiere di Pacific Palisadase, tra Malibù e Santa Monica, dove tra l’altro abitano diverse celebrities. Le fiamme sempre più alte, alimentate dai venti, stanno divorando letteralmente ciò che incontrano.

Le immagini che stanno circolando in rete sono terribili.

Anche il Getty Museum che si trova all’interno di un grande edificio che fu progettato come un’antica villa romana, rischia di finire nelle fiamme. Al suo interno sono custodite 44mila opere di arte antica.

La direttrice del museo Katherine Fleming assicura che sia il personale che le collezioni siano al sicuro al momento ma l’incendio si sta avvicinando sempre di più al Getty, minacciando l’incolumità di capolavori che vanno dal 6.500 avanti Cristo fino al XIX secolo.

Sculture, vasi, gioielli e altri oggetti provenienti dall’antica Grecia, Roma e Etruria ma anche tanti dipinti europei, con opere di maestri come come Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Monet e molti altri sono custoditi tra le sue mura, sulla collina di Malibù.

Tra le opere custodite dal Getty Museum c’è anche il mio disegno della Donna in Lutto acquistato all’asta nel 2017.

Data la situazione, le forze dell’ordine hanno imposto l’evacquazione di tutta l’area e oltre 40mila persone hanno dovuto abbandonare le proprie case. Le file di auto in fuga hanno bloccato le arterie stradali ma non solo. Alcuni automobilisti, vedendosi direttamente minacciati dalle fiamme, hanno dovuto lasciare l’auto in strada e scappare, bloccando ulteriormente il traffico.

E’ stato dichiarato lo stato d’emergenza ma i forti venti stanno impedendo alle squadre dei Vigili del Fuoco di contenere la situazione e circoscrivere l’incendio.

Getty Museum under threat: devastating fire underway in Los Angeles

In these hours the North Los Angeles area is engulfed in flames. A huge fire has already devastated 500 hectares of land and the flames continue to expand.

The situation is dramatic: the fire has reached the hills of the Pacific Palisades neighborhood, between Malibu and Santa Monica, where among other things several celebrities live. The increasingly high flames, fueled by the winds, are literally devouring everything in their path.

Even the Getty Museum, which is located inside a large building that was designed as an ancient Roman villa, risks ending up in flames. Inside are kept 44 thousand works of ancient art. Museum director Katherine Fleming assures that both the staff and the collections are safe at the moment but the fire is getting closer and closer to the Getty, threatening the safety of masterpieces ranging from 6,500 BC to the 19th century.

Sculptures, vases, jewelry and other objects from ancient Greece, Rome and Etruria but also many European paintings, with works by masters such as Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Monet and many others are kept within its walls, on the Malibu hill.

Given the situation, the police have ordered the evacuation of the entire area and over 40 thousand people have had to abandon their homes. The lines of fleeing cars have blocked the roads but not only. Some motorists, seeing themselves directly threatened by the flames, have had to leave their cars on the street and escape, further blocking traffic.

A state of emergency has been declared but strong winds are preventing the Fire Brigade teams from containing the situation and limiting the fire.
