Oramai manca sempre meno all’inizio del Giubileo 2025, evento di grande importanza religiosa e culturale che avrà il fulcro delle celebrazioni in Vaticano.

Cos’è il Giubileo

Il Giubileo è l’Anno Santo indetto dal Papa a intervalli irregolari, solitamente ogni 25 anni. È un periodo di perdono, di rinnovamento spirituale e di pellegrinaggio.

Durante il Giubileo, i fedeli sono invitati a compiere gesti di penitenza e di carità, e a visitare Roma per attraversare la Porta Santa della Basilica di San Pietro, edificata sopra la tomba tomba dell’apostolo, colonna fondante della Chiesa.

Perché è importante il Giubileo 2025

Il Giubileo 2025 ha un significato particolare perché si svolge in un momento storico molto complesso. Il tema scelto da Papa Francesco, “Pellegrini di Speranza”, invita tutti a guardare al futuro con ottimismo e a impegnarsi per costruire un mondo più giusto e fraterno.

L’inizio del Giubileo 2025

Il Giubileo 2025 si aprirà ufficialmente il 24 dicembre 2024 alle ore 19.00, con la Celebrazione Eucaristica presieduta da Papa Francesco in Piazza San Pietro. A seguire il pontefice compirà la rituale Apertura della Porta Santa.

La porta in questione è collocata all’estrema destra della facciata della Basilica di San Pietro e fu realizzata dallo scultore senese Vico Consorti per il Giubileo straordinario del 1950. Un tempo il papa abbatteva simbolicamente il muro di mattoni che sigillava il portone mentre oggi si limita ad aprire i battenti in bronzo.

L’apertura della porta segna l’inizio dell’Anno Santo e rappresenta un invito a tutti a varcare una nuova soglia per iniziare un cammino di rinnovamento. Da allora in poi il portone rimarrà aperto fino al 2 gennaio 2026 e l’accesso alla basilica sarà chiuso solo in orario notturno per motivi di sicurezza.

A Roma sono attesi milioni di pellegrini provenienti da ogni angolo del mondo che visiteranno i luoghi santi ma anche il resto della città e dell’Italia. Ecco perché in questi mesi Roma sembrava un cantiere a cielo aperto con il restauro in corso di molte fontane e altri lavori per accogliere al meglio il flusso di visitatori che arriveranno nei prossimi mesi.
