La magia dell’Albero di Natale nel dipinto di Tayler
L’opera del Natale che voglio proporvi oggi è Christmas Tree, ovvero Albero di Natale, dipinto a olio su tela nel 1911 dall’artista britannico Albert Chevallier Taylor.
È una scena domestica che si svolge in un ambiente tipico londinese di inizio Novecento. Un gruppo di bambini si raccoglie attorno all’albero di Natale che la donna sulla destra sta terminando di decorare con palline di vetro e candele accese.
In secondo piano, seduta sul soglio della grande finestra, siede una giovane mamma che tiene tra le braccia l’ultimo arrivato mentre la sorella maggiore tenta di distrarlo con un sonaglino.
L’atmosfera che il pittore è riuscito a raccontare attraverso la gestualità dei personaggi e l’uso dei colori è quello dell’attesa del Natale.
Guardate per esempio il volto sognante della bambina con il volto illuminato dalle candele dell’albero e che poggia il capo sulla mano sinistra.
Le figure che si muovono sulla scena sono state dipinte da Talyer con predominanza di tonalità calde.
Albert Chevallier Tayler era conosciuto proprio per saper ritrarre scene di vita quotidiana in modo realistico. Studiò alla Royal Academy di Londra ma è evidente quanto sia stata forte l’influenza dall’impressionismo francese nella sua produzione artistica.
L’artista volle firmare e datare il dipinto appartenente a una collezione privata. In basso a sinistra infatti si legge chiaramente la dicitura dipinta a punta di pennello ‘A.CHEVALLIER TAYLER. 1911’

The Magic of the Christmas Tree in Taylor’s Painting
The Christmas work I want to show you today is Christmas Tree, an oil painting on canvas from 1911 by the British artist Albert Chevallier Taylor.
It is a domestic scene that takes place in a typical London setting of the early twentieth century. A group of children gather around the Christmas tree that the woman on the right is finishing decorating with glass balls and lit candles.
In the background, sitting on the threshold of the large window, sits a young mother holding the latest arrival in her arms while her older sister tries to distract him with a rattle.
The atmosphere that the painter managed to convey through the gestures of the characters and the use of colors is that of waiting for Christmas. Look for example at the dreamy face of the little girl with her face illuminated by the candles of the tree and who rests her head on her left hand.
The figures moving on the scene were painted by Talyer with a predominance of warm tones.
Albert Chevallier Tayler was known for being able to portray scenes of everyday life in a realistic way. He studied at the Royal Academy in London but it is clear how strong the influence of French Impressionism was in his artistic production.
The artist wanted to sign and date the painting. In fact, at the bottom left you can clearly read the wording painted with a brush tip ‘A.CHEVALLIER TAYLER. 1911’
