Bernini: Anima Dannata e Anima Beata eccezionalmente in mostra ai Musei Vaticani
A partire del 19 novembre, in vista dell’anno giubilare 2025, i Musei Vaticani ospiteranno all’interno della Pinacoteca le due straordinarie opere giovanili di Bernini: l’Anima Dannata e l’Anima Beata.
I Musei Vaticani e l’Ambasciata di Spagna presso la Santa Sede, propongono in mostra “Le Anime del Bernini” con le due opere di Gian Lorenzo Bernini scolpite nel 1619 e proprietà dell’ “Opera Pia-Stabilimenti Spagnoli in Italia”, custodite abitualmente all’interno dell’Ambasciata di Spagna.
L’esposizione è curata dalla direttrice dei Musei Vaticani Barbara Jatta, insieme con Helena Pérez Gallardo dell’Università Complutense di Madrid.
Fino al 31 gennaio 2025 sarà possibile dunque ammirare questi due capolavori in marmo abitualmente non accessibili al pubblico.
Il rimando religioso alle due opere è evidente. Mentre l’Anima beata è rapita dalla contemplazione del divino, l’altra esprime tutto il suo orrore e sofferenza al cospetto dell’inferno.
“In esse l’evocazione degli attuali temi giubilari è affidata proprio alla mirabile capacità del Bernini di rendere con autentica maestria i più profondi e sfuggenti moti dell’animo umano, ricorrendo a forme e modalità spesso sorprendenti o imprevedibili“, afferma Jatta.
I Musei Vaticani rispondono dunque all’appello di Papa Francesco di coniugare la dimensione spirituale dell’Anno Santo con un percorso di arricchimento culturale, coinvolgendo Bernini, il grande maestro del Barocco.

Bernini: Damned Soul and Blessed Soul exceptionally on display at the Vatican Museums
Starting on November 19, in view of the Jubilee Year 2025, the Vatican Museums will host Bernini’s two extraordinary youthful works in the Pinacoteca: the Damned Soul and the Blessed Soul.
The Vatican Museums and the Spanish Embassy to the Holy See are offering an exhibition of “The Souls of Bernini” with the two works by Gian Lorenzo Bernini sculpted in 1619 and owned by the “Opera Pia-Stabilimenti Spagnoli in Italia”, usually kept inside the Spanish Embassy.
The exhibition is curated by the director of the Vatican Museums Barbara Jatta, together with Helena Pérez Gallardo of the Complutense University of Madrid.
It will therefore be possible to admire these two marble masterpieces that are usually not accessible to the public until January 31, 2025.
The religious reference to the two works is evident. While the Blessed Soul is enraptured by the contemplation of the divine, the other expresses all its horror and suffering in the presence of hell.
“In them, the evocation of the current Jubilee themes is entrusted precisely to Bernini’s admirable ability to render with authentic mastery the deepest and most elusive movements of the human soul, resorting to forms and methods that are often surprising or unpredictable,” says Jatta.
The Vatican Museums therefore respond to Pope Francis’s appeal to combine the spiritual dimension of the Holy Year with a path of cultural enrichment, involving Bernini, the great master of the Baroque.
