Fra i disegni che tracciai sulle pareti della Stanza Segreta, ci sono alcuni studi riconducibili alla scultura del cosiddetto David Apollo, oggi custoditi nel salone al piano terra del Museo del Bargello.

Uno in particolare si trova sulla volta a botte ed è molto nitido anche perché quella zona nel corso degli anni non è stata interessata dalle muffe o dalle efflorescenze saline.

Studiai accuratamente la posa di una figura virile stante con le braccia levate e piegate nell’atto di prendere o sostenere qualcosa che si trova dietro le spalle.

Il capo è rivolto verso il basso nello stesso atteggiamento che può essere accomunato a quello del David Apollo che poi scolpii per Baccio Valori dopo l’assedio.

Proprio il Valori filomediceo fu colui che, una volta divenuto governatore di Firenze, mi aveva fatto cercare ovunque per arrestarmi e chissà che fine avrei fatto se m’avesse trovato da qualche parte.

Come sostiene il Vasari nelle Vite: “Per farsi amico Baccio Valori una figura di tre braccia di marmo, che era un Apollo che si cavava del turcasso una freccia, e lo condusse presso al fine; il quale è oggi nella camera del Principe di Fiorenza: una cosa rarissima ancora che non sia finita del tutto”.

Su una parete della Stanza Segreta invece studiai una gamba sinistra che ha la stessa identica posa del medesimo arto della scultura in questione.

Studies for David Apollo in the Secret Room

Among the drawings that I traced on the walls of the Secret Room, there are some studies attributable to the sculpture of the so-called David Apollo, today kept in the hall on the ground floor of the Bargello Museum.

One in particular is located on the barrel vault and is very clear also because that area has not been affected by mold or saline efflorescence over the years.

I carefully studied the pose of a virile figure standing with his arms raised and bent in the act of taking or holding something behind his shoulders.

His head is turned downwards in the same attitude that can be compared to that of the David Apollo which I then sculpted for Baccio Valori after the siege.

The pro-Medici Valori himself was the one who, once he became governor of Florence, had me searched everywhere to arrest me and who knows what would have happened to me if he had found me somewhere.

As Vasari claims in the Lives: “To make a friend of Baccio Valori a figure of three arms in marble, which was an Apollo who took an arrow from the quirk, and led him close to the end: which is today in the room of the Prince of Florence : still a very rare thing that is not completely finished”. On one wall of the Secret Room, however, I studied a left leg which has the exact same pose as the same limb of the sculpture in question.
