A San Casciano dei Bagni, in provincia di Siena, sono state ritrovate 24 sculture in bronzo etrusche e romane: una scoperta importantissima. Cinque di queste straordinarie opere sono integre e sfiorano il metro d’altezza.

Senza dubbio l’Italia è ancora ricca di tesori da scoprire e tesori inestimabili come questi da riportare alla luce. Le opere in questione sono state rinvenute scavando all’interno di vasche romane e sono databili fra il II secolo a.C. e il I secolo d.C.

Fra le opere meglio conservate c’è un giovane efebo che pare dormire e Igea, la dea della salute con un serpente che le avvolge con le spire il braccio.

Matrone, divinità, imperatori, un Apollo, fanciulli e un gran numero di monete: è questo il tesoro che per 2300 anni è stato celato dal fango e dalle acque bollenti di queste vasche considerate sacre.

E’ un giorno che verrà ricordato alla stregua di quello della scoperta dei Bronzi di Riace.

Già sono al lavoro più di sessanta esperti provenienti da tutto il mondo come ha comunicato Jacopo Tabolli, l’archeologo che dal 2019 conduce l’importante progetto di ricerca che ha portato in questi giorni al ritrovamento delle opere in bronzo.

Massimo Osanna, il direttore generale dei musei del Mic ha appena approvato l’acquisto del palazzo cinquecentesco a San Casciano che ospiterà queste opere tornate alla luce ha dichiarato “La scoperta più importante dai Bronzi di Riace e certamente uno dei ritrovamenti di bronzi più significativi mai fatti nella storia del Mediterraneo antico”.
