Michelangelo 550: il ritratto che mi fece il Bonasone, mio coetaneo
In occasione dei 550 anni dalla mia nascita, voglio proporvi un mio ritratto che volle fare l’artista Giulio Bonasone.
Bonasone era un coetaneo: nacque infatti solo tredici anni dopo che ero venuto al mondo io. Sebbene siano poche le notizie biografiche che lo riguardano, sappiamo che fu particolarmente attivo a Bologna come incisore e lavorò a lungo anche nella Città Eterna.
Quella che vedete è l’incisione a bulino realizzata di Bonasone con la quale mi rese omaggio.
Preferì raffigurarmi girato verso destra di profilo, con tanto di barba come ero solito portare.
Se guardate bene, all’altezza della fronte, vedrete un insolito dettaglio: una goccia di sudore che scende verso il basso, molto probabilmente un dettaglio che l’artista volle aggiungere per simboleggiare la fatica e i travagli che affrontai in vita.
Al di sotto del tondo che incornicia il volto, Bonasone riportò questa scritta in latino: MICHEAL AGNELVUS BONAROTVS PATRITIVS/ FLORENTINVS AN AGNENS LXXII/ QVANTVM IN NATVRAARS NATVRAQVE POSSIT IN ARTE/HIC QVI NATVRAE PAR FIVIT ARTE DOCET/ MDXLVI.
L’incisione appartiene al Gabinetto dei Disegni e delle Stampe della Pinacoteca Nazionale di Bologna.

Michelangelo 550: the portrait of me made by Bonasone, my contemporary
On the occasion of the 550th anniversary of my birth, I want to show you a portrait of me that the artist Giulio Bonasone wanted to make.
Bonasone was my contemporary. In fact, he was born only thirteen years after I came into the world. Although there is little biographical information about him, we know that he was particularly active in Bologna as an engraver and also worked for a long time in the Eternal City.
What you see is the burin engraving made by Bonasone with which he paid homage to me.
He preferred to depict me turned to the right in profile, complete with beard as I used to wear.
If you look carefully, at the height of the forehead, you will see an unusual detail: a drop of sweat running down, most likely a detail that the artist wanted to add to symbolize the fatigue and hardships that I faced in life.
Below the tondo that frames the face, Bonasone reported this inscription in Latin: MICHEAL AGNELVUS BONAROTVS PATRITIVS/ FLORENTINVS AN AGNENS LXXII/ QVANTVM IN NATVRAARS NATVRAQVE POSSIT IN ARTE/HIC QVI NATVRAE PAR FIVIT ARTE DOCET/ MDXLVI.
The engraving belongs to the Cabinet of Drawings and Prints of the Pinacoteca Nazionale di Bologna.
