Michelangelo 550: il mio ritratto realizzato da Blake
In occasione dei 550 anni dalla mia nascita, oggi voglio proporvi l’incisione a acquaforte che ritrae me in piedi, realizzata da William Blake nel 1801.
Se aguzzate la vista noterete che nell’illustrazione mi trovo all’interno del Colosseo. Con la mano sinistra m’appoggio su un bastone in legno.
Questa illustrazione fu realizzata per essere inserita nell’ultima pagina del libro ‘Lectures on Painting’ di Henry Fuseli, pubblicato all’inizio dell’Ottocento.
In calce all’acquaforte si legge la firma dell’autore “Blake: sc” e la dicitura in italiano “Ancora imparo. M,Angelo Bonarroti”: una frase messa nero su bianco da me diversi lustri fa.
L’acquaforte in questione appartiene alle prestigiose collezioni del British Museum.

Michelangelo 550: my portrait made by Blake
To celebrate the 550th anniversary of my birth, today I want to show you the etching that portrays me standing, made by William Blake in 1801.
If you look closely you will notice that in the illustration I am inside the Colosseum. With my left hand I am leaning on a wooden stick.
This illustration was made to be included on the last page of the book ‘Lectures on Painting’ by Henry Fuseli, published at the beginning of the nineteenth century.
At the bottom of the etching you can read the author’s signature “Blake: sc” and the words in Italian “Ancora imparo. M,Angelo Bonarroti”.
The etching in question belongs to the prestigious collections of the British Museum.
