Bologna: la Torre Garisenda a rischio crollo
In queste ultime ore lo stato di salute della Torre Garisenda sta tenendo tutti con il fiato sospeso.
Ubicata nel cuore di Bologna e simbolo della città assieme alla torre più alta degli Asinelli, la Garisenda ha fatto rilevare agli strumenti che la monitorano delle oscillazioni anomale.
Negli ultimi anni la sua inclinazione evidente è divenuta sempre più preoccupante e l’ultimo avviso di pericolo è scattato all’inizio di ottobre, quando i sensori che da tempo la monitorano, hanno rilevato dei movimenti poco rassicuranti.
Il comune di Bologna ha recintato e chiuso al traffico il tratto di via San Vitale fra via Zanobi e via Rizzoli che si snoda costeggiando la torre per consentire di effettuare ai tecnici ulteriori accertamenti e monitoraggi.
Queste operazioni proseguiranno fino a venerdì 27. Anche l’adiacente Torre degli Asinelli è stata chiusa al pubblico al momento.
Dovete sapere che la Torre Garisenda è stata costruita 900 anni fa, su un basamento di malta e selenite. Al momento è la costruzione pendente in muratura più alta del mondo con i suoi 48 metri. Vero è che la torre di Pisa è più alta ma fu però costruita in mattoni.
La Torre in origine era alta una sessantina di metri ma per evitare il rischio di crollo, fu abbassata a 48 nella seconda metà del Trecento. Per questa ragione è conosciuta anche con l’appellativo di Torre Mozza. La pendenza è di circa 4 gradi ed è causata da un cedimento del terreno che già si presentò durante la sua costruzione.
“Dopo l’incontro in Sovrintendenza dei beni culturali con la sottosegretaria alla Cultura Borgonzoni, è stata individuata una impresa altamente specializzata che ha effettuato un sopralluogo con i tecnici del Comune ed è stata costituita la task force per la sicurezza della torre Garisenda che, nei giorni successivi, si è confrontata con il Comitato tecnico scientifico della Garisenda, attivo dal 2018.
E’ emersa la necessità di affinare l’analisi dei dati e di acquisirne di nuovi effettuando quindi nuove rilevazioni per il monitoraggio delle torri Garisenda e Asinelli. Il Sindaco ha inoltre anticipato che chiederà al Comitato un dossier definitivo e chiarificatore sui dati emersi onde addivenire a decisioni ulteriori”.

Bologna: the Garisenda Tower at risk of collapse
In these last hours the state of health of the Garisenda Tower is keeping everyone in suspense. Located in the heart of Bologna and symbol of the city together with the highest Asinelli tower, the Garisenda has caused the instruments monitoring it to detect anomalous oscillations.
In recent years its evident inclination has become increasingly worrying and the last danger warning was triggered at the beginning of October, when the sensors that have been monitoring it for some time detected some less than reassuring movements.
The municipality of Bologna has fenced off and closed to traffic the stretch of via San Vitale between via Zanobi and via Rizzoli which runs alongside the tower to allow technicians to carry out further checks and monitoring.
These operations will continue until Friday 27th. The adjacent Torre degli Asinelli has also been closed to the public at the moment.
You should know that the Garisenda Tower was built 900 years ago, on a base of mortar and selenite. It is currently the tallest leaning masonry construction in the world at 48 meters high. It is true that the Tower of Pisa is taller but it was built of bricks.
The Tower was originally about sixty meters high but to avoid the risk of collapse, it was lowered to 48 in the second half of the fourteenth century. For this reason it is also known by the nickname of Torre Mozza. The slope is approximately 4 degrees and is caused by a subsidence of the land that already occurred during its construction.
“After the meeting at the Superintendency of Cultural Heritage with the Undersecretary of Culture Borgonzoni, a highly specialized company was identified which carried out an inspection with the technicians of the Municipality and the task force for the safety of the Garisenda tower was set up which, in the following days, it met with the Garisenda Scientific Technical Committee, active since 2018.
The need emerged to refine the data analysis and acquire new data, thus carrying out new surveys for the monitoring of the Garisenda and Asinelli towers. The Mayor also anticipated that he will ask the Committee for a definitive and clarifying dossier on the data that emerged in order to reach further decisions”.
