Finalmente dopo due anni di stop, domenica 5 giugno 2022 torna la tradizionale pioggia di petali dall’oculo del Pantheon.

In occasione della Pentecoste i fedeli che assisteranno alla celebrazioni liturgiche all’interno del  Pantheon , si ritroveranno al di sotto di una pioggia di petali di rose rosse.

La pioggia di petali è curata dai Vigili del Fuoco appartenenti al Comando di Roma. Un gruppo di dodici vigili si arrampica gradino dopo gradino sulla cupola e, una volta raggiunto l’oculo, inizia a buttare petali rossi sui fedeli, prelevandoli dai loro grandi sacchi.

La discesa dei petali simboleggia l’effusione dello Spirito Santo sugli Apostoli riuniti con la Madonna in preghiera, avvenuta nel cinquantesimo giorno dopo la Pasqua. Il rito che si svolge nel Pantheon ha origini assai antiche e dopo aver subito una lunga interruzione fu ripreso costantemente dal 1995.

Le celebrazioni liturgiche avranno inizio alle ore 10:30, presiedute da Sua Eccellenza Monsignore Paul Tighe e sarà presente il coro della basilica diretto da Loda con la partecipazione del coro Salvo d’Acquisto.

June 5, 2022: the rain of petals returns to the Pantheon

Finally, after two years of hiatus, on Sunday 5 June 2022 the traditional shower of petals will return from the oculus of the Pantheon.

On the occasion of Pentecost, the faithful who will attend the liturgical celebrations inside the Pantheon will find themselves under a shower of red rose petals.

The rain of petals is handled by the Fire Brigade belonging to the Rome Command. A group of twelve policemen climbs step by step on the dome and, once they reach the oculus, begins throwing red petals on the faithful, taking them from their large bags.

The descent of the petals symbolizes the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles gathered with the Madonna in prayer, which took place on the fiftieth day after Easter. The rite that takes place in the Pantheon has very ancient origins and after having suffered a long interruption it was constantly resumed since 1995.

The liturgical celebrations will begin at 10:30 am, presided over by His Excellency Monsignor Paul Tighe and the choir of the basilica directed by Loda will be present with the participation of the Salvo d’Acquisto choir.
