La Madonna col Bambino che dorme
Oggi voglio raccontarvi un po’ di cose in merito a questo foglio con la Madonna seduta che tiene sulle gambe il Bambino che dorme che tracciai con la sanguigna su carta.
Per quanto possa sembrarvi strano, in origine questo foglio era lo stesso che conteneva un altro studio di Madonna assai simile.
Che significa? Beh, nel corso degli anni qualcuno ha separato i due disegni ritagliandoli. Infatti al Louvre esiste la copia di questo e dell’altro disegno sullo steso foglio, realizzati da un giovane Vasari che allenava occhio e mano copiando i miei studi.
La Madonna è seduta in posizione quasi frontale e tiene in grembo il Bambino addormentato sostenendolo sotto la gamba sinistra e l’ascella.
Guardate la mano sinistra del Figlio abbandonata che rende più l’idea di qualcosa di morto che di vivo. Ecco queste mani abbandonate ricorrono spesso nelle opere mie: pensate ad esempio a quella del Bambino della Madonna della Scala e quella della Pietà Bandini.

The Madonna and Child sleeping
Today I want to tell you a few things about this sheet with the seated Madonna holding the sleeping Child on her legs that I traced with sanguine on paper.
Strange as it may seem to you, this sheet was originally the same one that contained another very similar Madonna study.
What does it mean? Well, over the years someone has separated the two designs by cropping them. In fact, in the Louvre there is a copy of this and of the other drawing on the same sheet, made by a young Vasari who trained his eye and hand by copying my studies.
The Madonna is seated in an almost frontal position and she holds the sleeping Child on her lap, supporting him under her left leg and armpit.
Look at the abandoned left hand of the Son which gives more the idea of something dead than alive. Here are these abandoned hands that often recur in my works: think for example of that of the Child of the Madonna della Scala and that of the Pietà Bandini.
