Natività nel mondo dell’arte
Come ogni anno, quando ci si appresta al Natale, mi piace mostrarvi delle natività dipinte o scolpite che mi piacciono e che spero piacciano anche a voi.
Ci sono un gran numero di artisti che si sono cimentati con questo tema, spesso su commissione di cardinali, signoroni e potenti dell’epoca in cui vivevano. Inizio la rassegna proponendovi L’Adorazione dei Pastori di Guido Reni.
L’Adorazione dei Pastori di Guido Reni
E’ un dipinto a olio su tela realizzato fra il 1640 e il 1642 dal Reni e si trova nella Certosa di San Martino a Napoli.
Per dipingere quest’opera il Bronzino si basò sul Vangelo di Luca che racconta che al momento della nascita di Gesù, i pastori vennero avvertiti da un angelo del lieto evento e accorsero per adorare il bambino nella grotta.
L’Adorazione dei Pastori di Tintoretto
Quest’opera di Tintoretto si trova oggi al piano nobile della Scuola Grande di San Rocco a Venezia. I pastori in primo piano arrivano per adorare il bambino appena Venuto al mondo.
in un impianto scenografico sui generis, la Sacra Famiglia si trova al primo piano di questo fienile. I personaggi indossano abiti popolani della Venezia del XVI secolo.
L’Adorazione dei Pastori di Agnolo Bronzino
Il Bronzino dipinse quest’olio su tavola di pioppo che oggi si trova al Museo di Belle Arti di Budapest fra il 1539 e il 1540. Anche il Bronzino come Reni, fa riferimento al Vangelo di Luca per mettere in pittura lo svolgimento della medesima scena dell’arrivo dei pastori al cospetto di Dio che si è fatto Uomo.
La Natività di Giotto
L’affresco della Natività di Giotto si trova nella Basilica inferiore di San Francesco ad Assisi. E’ l’unico caso in pittura in cui il presepe viene raffigurato con due bambini in fasce: così il pittore ha voluto evocare la natura spirituale di Cristo e quella più umana.
Ricco di lapislazzuli e oro, questo affresco è una delle opere più belle e significative della Natività.
La Natività con i Santi Lorenzo e Francesco d’Assisi del Caravaggio
Questa meravigliosa Natività fu dipinta dal Caravaggio nel 1609. Gli fu commissionata dalla Compagnia dei Bardigli e dei Cordiglieri di Palermo mentre si trovava in Sicilia, in fuga per aver assassinato Tomassoni.
La Vergine Maria è raffigurata come una donna comune che ha appena dato alla luce il suo Bambino e l’ha sistemato su un giaciglio di paglia spartano. San Lorenzo e San Francesco adorano il Figlio mentre dal cielo nero arriva un angelo con un cartiglio: Gloria in Eccelsis Deo.
Dove si trova questa opera? Eh bella domanda. Fu trafugata la notte tra il 17 e il 18 ottobre 1969 dall’Oratorio di San Lorenzo a Palermo e non è stata ancora recuperata.
L’adorazione del Bambino di San Vincenzo Ferrer di Filippo Lippi
E’ un dipinto a tempera su tavola realizzato dal Lippi fra il 1455 e il 1466 conservato nel Museo Civico di Prato. Il pittore inserì nell’opera San Vincenzo Ferrer canonizzato proprio in quel periodo (1455) perché era un po’ un modello per la difesa dall’eresia nella cultura domenicana.
Per quest’anno la mia rassegna di Natività termina qua ma sono innumerevoli le opere che hanno per tema il Natale e la nascita di Nostro Signore.

Nativity in the art world

The Adoration of the Shepherds by Guido Reni
It is an oil painting on canvas created between 1640 and 1642 by Reni and is located in the Certosa di San Martino in Naples.

The Adoration of the Shepherds by Agnolo Bronzino
Bronzino painted this oil on poplar panel which is now in the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest between 1539 and 1540. Like Reni, Bronzino also refers to the Gospel of Luke to depict the unfolding of the same scene in the painting. arrival of the shepherds in the presence of God who became man.
Giotto’s Nativity
Giotto’s fresco of the Nativity is located in the lower Basilica of San Francesco in Assisi. It is the only case in painting in which the crib is depicted with two babies in swaddling clothes: thus the painter wanted to evoke the spiritual nature of Christ and the more human one.
Rich in lapis lazuli and gold, this fresco is one of the most beautiful and significant works of the Nativity.
The Nativity with Saints Lawrence and Francis of Assisi by Caravaggio
This wonderful Nativity was painted by Caravaggio in 1609. He was commissioned by the Compagnia dei Bardigli e dei Cordiglieri of Palermo while he was in Sicily, fleeing for having murdered Tomassoni.
The Virgin Mary is depicted as an ordinary woman who has just given birth to her Child and placed him on a Spartan straw bed. San Lorenzo and San Francesco adore the Son while an angel arrives from the black sky with a scroll: Gloria in Eccelsis Deo.
Where is this work located? Oh good question. It was stolen on the night between 17 and 18 October 1969 from the Oratory of San Lorenzo in Palermo and has not yet been recovered.
The adoration of the Child of San Vincenzo Ferrer by Filippo Lippi
It is a tempera painting on wood made by Lippi between 1455 and 1466 kept in the Civic Museum of Prato. The painter included San Vincenzo Ferrer canonized in that period (1455) in the work because he was a bit of a model for the defense against heresy in Dominican culture.
