Fra gli studi più belli relativi alla Cappella Sistina che si sono conservati fino ai vostri giorni, c’è sicuramente lo studio per la realizzazione di Adamo. Lo tracciai prima a carboncino su carta e poi lo ripassai accuratamente con la sanguigna.

Dovevo rendere in maniera impeccabile la forza espressiva nel momento in cui il primo uomo veniva creato da Dio. Quel corpo non poteva essere meno che perfetto dato che era stato formato immagine e somiglianza del Creatore. Ma c’era un altro problema: da terra, a distanza di parecchi metri, si sarebbe dovuto vedere bene.

Osservate il modellato del torso, gambe e braccia ma anche la posa totalmente aperta verso lo spettatore. Oggi quella figura di Adamo è uno dei brani di pittura più conosciuti in assoluto nel mondo. Chi per la prima volta entra nella Cappella Sistina, prima viene catturato dal colore brillante del lapislazzuli del Giudizio e poi con lo sguardo va a cercare sulla volta proprio la Creazione di Adamo.

The Creation of Adam: the study
