Resurrection of Lazarus for Sebastiano del Piombo
Today, March 10, 2016, the National Gallery in London will be showing a temporary exhibit which promises to be the biggest art show of the year: Michelangelo and Sebastiano. A meeting of ideas. I’m takeing this opportunity to tell you about the work collaboration I had with Sebastiano del Piombo.
The drawing here below is a somethingI made for him, which then was used for a painting on pannel commissioned by Cardinal Giulio de ‘Medici that is typiacally shown at the National Gallery (1517-1519). Vasari, in his bok the Lives of the most Excellent Painters, Sculptors & Architects mentions this paiting saying it was made “under the direction and design of Michelangelo.”
There are many more drawings and ideas that I made to the study of this composition but the one shown here below is the one which Sebastiano used as the closest to mine. He took detals from my other drwaings for less important figures as well as details of hands.
Your truly, Michelangelo Buonarroti and his drawings.
