Rich clothes for poor souls
One day, when I was lying in that city of Rome to work, a friend of mine appeared before me, who for some time had embarked on a religious career. He already said mass and believed himself a sort of God on earth or perhaps even something more.
In the beginning I ignored him, pretended not to see him with his head bent over his work. He was dressed in certain velvets, drapes, and tips that looked like a newly nominated pope. “You are beautiful! If I were so inside, as I see outside, good for your soul,” I told him. I greeted him cheerfully and went on my way. Rich clothes for poor souls never stirred me any interest.
