Michelangelo 550: io che presento il Mosè ai grandi uomini del mio tempo
In una collezione privata fiorentina è custodito il dipinto dal titolo ‘Michelangelo presenta il Mosè ai grandi uomini del suo tempo’ realizzato a olio su tela da Annibale Gatti, tra il 1853 e il 1855.
Allievo di Giuseppe Bezzuoli, Gatti fu uno dei maggiori pittori del secondo Ottocento fiorentino e sicuramente quello più rappresentativo del periodo di Firenze capitale.
A metà Ottocento aveva avuto modo di lavorare a diverse pitture celebrative di personaggi importanti. Mise mano successivamente, nel 1860, all”affresco che rappresenta la mia Apoteosi, incoronato dalle Arti a Palazzo Toscanelli a Pisa.
Nel dipinto in questione l’artista mi raffigurò in piedi mentre con la mano destra mostro la scultura del Mosè ultimata a papa Giulio II della Rovere.
L’utilizzo del colore con quei forti contrasti non è così lontano da quello che ne faceva il circolo dei macchiaioli.
Tra gli altri personaggi delineati con pochi tratti che si muovono sulla scena, sembra di poter riconoscere Raffaello seduto alla destra del pontefice, con i capelli che gli lambiscono le spalle e quello che sembra essere un volume o un foglio in mano.

Michelangelo 550: I present Moses to the great men of my time
A private Florentine collection houses the painting entitled ‘Michelangelo presents Moses to the great men of his time’, painted in oil on canvas by Annibale Gatti between 1853 and 1855.
A student of Giuseppe Bezzuoli, Gatti was one of the greatest painters of the second half of the 19th century in Florence and certainly the most representative of the period when Florence was the capital.
In the mid-19th century he had had the opportunity to work on several paintings celebrating important figures. He later began, in 1860, the fresco that represents my Apotheosis, crowned by the Arts at Palazzo Toscanelli in Pisa.
In the painting in question the artist depicted me standing while with my right hand I show the sculpture of Moses completed to Pope Julius II della Rovere.
The use of color with those strong contrasts is not so far from what the Macchiaioli circle did.
Among the other characters outlined with a few strokes that move on the scene, it seems we can recognize Raphael sitting to the right of the pontiff, with his hair brushing his shoulders and what appears to be a volume or a sheet of paper in his hand.
