L’umanità redenta del Giudizio Universale
Ai giusti viene mostrato il libro più piccolo dall’angelo che lo sostiene. Lì, dalla notte dei tempi, sono scritti i nomi dei salvati che uno dopo l’altro iniziano ad ascendere verso l’empireo.
Ci si perde osservando le tante figure che si stagliano contro il blu lapislazzuli del cielo, oggi meno intenso di come l’avevo realizzato un tempo. Infatti, il colore che si vede, è dato da quello della preparazione del fondo dove poi sopra stesi a secco il lapislazzuli, purtroppo andato perduto nel corso dei secoli.
Alcune figure salgono verso l’altro senza mostrare alcuna fatica ma altre vengono tirate su con energicamente da angeli muscolosi. Lo sforzo che compiono è tangibile ma ultimata la scalata, troveranno la salvezza eterna e l’obiettivo gli rende meno onerosa l’impresa.
Due uomini, uno nudo e l’altro completamente vestito, si aggrappano a un rosario sostenuto da una figura angelica senz’ali: la fede salva e la forza della preghiera eleva lo spirito verso l’alto.
Alcuni risorti mantengono gli occhi chiusi come se ancora il loro corpo non si fosse svegliato dal torpore mortifero. Altri invece mentre altri hanno il volto segnato da un’espressione che fa intuire una sorta di accecamento dovuto a una grande luce, quella emanata dal divino.
L’umanità redenta pare titubane e incerta quando viene messa dinanzi alla salvezza eterna, come se non s’aspettasse quel Giudizio arrivato all’improvviso. Anticipato sì da segni evidenti come narrato nell’Apocalisse ma comunque sorprendente nei modi e nei tempi.
Quella sorta di danza circolare e ascendente viene messa in moto da Cristo Giudice, con quel suo braccio levato verso i dannati che affonda verso gli inferi e che fa salire i beati verso i cieli.

The redeemed humanity of the Last Judgement

Two men, one naked and the other fully dressed, cling to a rosary held by an angelic figure without wings: faith saves and the strength of prayer lifts the spirit upwards.
Some resurrected people keep their eyes closed as if their body had not yet awakened from the deadly torpor. Others, while others have their faces marked by an expression that suggests a sort of blindness due to a great light, that emanating from the divine.
Redeemed humanity seems hesitant and uncertain when faced with eternal salvation, as if it did not expect that Judgment that arrived suddenly. Anticipated by evident signs as narrated in the Apocalypse but still surprising in its ways and times.
That sort of circular and ascending dance is set in motion by Christ the Judge, with his arm raised towards the damned that sinks towards hell and that makes the blessed rise towards the heavens.
