‘Michelangelo’ è il titolo della mostra che aprirà i battenti a partire dal 29 marzo allo Statens Museum for Kunst, il museo nazionale della Danimarca.

Si tratta della più grande esposizione che mi sia mai stata dedicata nel Paese e metterà assieme calchi in gesso dell’Ottocento direttamente provenienti dalla collezione permanente del medesimo museo con repliche tecnologiche realizzate con una stampante 3D.

Oltre alle repliche delle sculture, verrà esposta un’ampia selezione di miei disegni originali e lettere che mai prima di adesso sono arrivate in Danimarca. Ecco, questa a mio avviso sarà la parte più interessate della mostra ‘Michelangelo’.

La mostra permetterà di aprire un dibattito e una riflessione sull’utilizzo delle repliche nella museologia contemporanea.

Quale il ruolo delle stampanti 3D in una mostra di questo tipo che consente di confrontare repliche di opere mie fianco a fianco, non avendo la possibilità di ottenere in prestito le sculture vere e proprie?

Lo so, sono anziano, anzi, talmente vecchio da essere morto secoli fa. Insomma, sono un uomo di altri tempi però ancora preferisco il marmo e una mostra di repliche fatte con una moderna stampante 3D non mi alletta per nulla, per quanto l’allestimento possa essere accattivante e ‘instagrammabile’.

Andrei a vedere la mostra ‘Michelangelo’ per i disegni originali e le lettere, quello sì, ma non per le copie.

Michelangelo: the largest exhibition ever dedicated to me in Denmark

‘Michelangelo’ is the title of the exhibition that will open its doors starting from March 29th at the Statens Museum for Kunst, the national museum of Denmark.

It is the largest exhibition ever dedicated to me in the country and will bring together 19th-century plaster casts directly from the permanent collection of the same museum with technological replicas made with a 3D printer.

In addition to the replicas of the sculptures, a large selection of my original drawings and letters that have never before arrived in Denmark will be exhibited. In my opinion, this will be the most interesting part of the ‘Michelangelo’ exhibition.

The exhibition will open a debate and a reflection on the use of replicas in contemporary museology.

What is the role of 3D printers in an exhibition of this type that allows you to compare replicas of my works side by side, without having the possibility of borrowing the actual sculptures?

I know, I am old, in fact, so old that I died centuries ago. In short, I am a man of other times but I still prefer marble and an exhibition of replicas made with a modern 3D printer does not appeal to me at all, however captivating and ‘instagrammable’ the display may be.

I would go to see the ‘Michelangelo’ exhibition for the original drawings and letters, yes, but not for the copies.
