“I Farnese nella Roma del Cinquecento. Origini e fortuna di una collezione” è la mostra che aprirà al pubblico a partire dall’11 febbraio i Musei Capitolini in cui ad essere coinvolti saranno anche i miei progetti.

Curato da Claudio Parisi Presicce e Chiara Rabbi Bernard, il percorso espositivo sarà incentrato sul momento storico caratterizzato dalla profonda trasformazione urbanistica della città di Roma, incentivata da papa Paolo III Farnese.

Proprio a Paolo II infatti si devono imponenti interventi come la sistemazione di Piazza del Campidoglio che affidò a me e la collocazione al centro della piazza della scultura equestre in bronzo del Marco Aurelio.

La grande opera infatti si trovava precedentemente nella Piazza del Laterano ma il pontefice la volle far collocare nel 1538 al centro del colle capitolino.

La mostra inoltre proporrà ai visitatori parte della collezione Farnese appartenuta a papa Paolo III e ai suoi nipoti, comprensiva di dipinti, sculture antiche, bozzetti, disegni preziosissimi e manoscritti.

Saranno oltre cento i capolavori esposti, provenienti principalmente dal Museo Nazionale Archeologico di Napoli, dal Museo di Capodimonte, dalla Biblioteca Nazionale e da altre collezioni pubbliche e private.

Un’attenzione particolare sarà riservata a come le opere erano contestualizzate e presentate nel Palazzo Farnese ma anche al recupero di opere originariamente presenti nella collezione, nel tempo disperse in collezioni pubbliche o private.

Un ulteriore approfondimento sarà dedicato alla figura di Paolo III e al gruppo di intellettuali che gravitavano attorno alla sua corte.

La mostra rimarrà aperta fino al 18 maggio 2025.

The Farnese in Rome in the 16th Century: an exhibition coming soon to the Capitoline Museums

“The Farnese in Rome in the 16th Century. Origins and Fortune of a Collection” is the exhibition that will open to the public starting from February 11th at the Capitoline Museums, in which my projects will also be involved.

Curated by Claudio Parisi Presicce and Chiara Rabbi Bernard, the exhibition itinerary will focus on the historical moment characterized by the profound urban transformation of the city of Rome, encouraged by Pope Paul III Farnese.

In fact, Paul II is responsible for major interventions such as the arrangement of Piazza del Campidoglio, which he entrusted to me, and the placement of the bronze equestrian sculpture of Marcus Aurelius in the center of the square.

The imposing work was previously located in Piazza del Laterano, but the pontiff wanted it placed in the center of the Capitoline Hill in 1538.

The exhibition will also offer visitors part of the Farnese collection that belonged to Pope Paul III and his grandchildren, including paintings, ancient sculptures, sketches, precious drawings and manuscripts.

There will be over one hundred masterpieces on display, mainly from the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, the Capodimonte Museum, the National Library and other public and private collections.

Particular attention will be paid to how the works were contextualized and presented in the Palazzo Farnese and to the recovery of works originally present in the collection, dispersed over time in public or private collections.

A further in-depth study will be dedicated to the figure of Paul III and the group of intellectuals who gravitated around his court.

The exhibition will remain open until May 18, 2025.
