Tra i luoghi più belli da visitare a Roma c’è la superba Galleria Doria Pamphilj con i suoi capolavori che, da qualche anno a questa parte, ha reso accessibile un vero e proprio gioiello: il Ninfeo di Diana.

Lo splendido Ninfeo è una sala da bagno-alcova realizzata in stile pompeiano, con vista sul giardino ed è il luogo simbolo degli Appartamenti Segreti, comprendenti diversi ambienti.

Il Ninfeo fu commissionato dal principe di Melfi Filippo Andrea V Doria Pamphilj Landi nel 1840 per farne dono alla moglie Mary Talbot di Shrewsbury.

La sala è affrescata con grottesche mentre agli angoli sono posizionate sculture di epoca romana.

Le pareti sono decorate con i frutti delle quattro stagioni e al centro dell’ambiente è incastonata nella pavimentazione la vasca in marmo bianco di Carrara piena di acqua, dedicata alla dea Diana.

Tutte le decorazioni pittoriche furono realizzate nel 1838 da Annibale Angelini, su commissione del principe Andrea.

Galleria Doria Pamphilj: the Nymphaeum of Diana

Among the most beautiful places to visit in Rome is the superb Galleria Doria Pamphilj with its masterpieces that, in recent years, has made accessible a real jewel: the Nymphaeum of Diana.

The splendid Nymphaeum is a bathroom-alcove made in Pompeian style, overlooking the garden and is the symbolic place of the Secret Apartments, comprising various rooms.

The Nymphaeum was commissioned by the Prince of Melfi Filippo Andrea V Doria Pamphilj Landi in 1840 as a gift to his wife Mary Talbot of Shrewsbury.

The room is frescoed with grotesques while in the corners there are sculptures from the Roman era.

The walls are decorated with the fruits of the four seasons and in the center of the room is set in the floor the white Carrara marble basin full of water, dedicated to the goddess Diana.

All the pictorial decorations were made in 1838 by Annibale Angelini, commissioned by Prince Andrea.
