Venerdì 5 agosto alle ore 19:00 verrà inaugurata al Museo Alto Garda la nuova mostra “Michelangelo e la Cappella Sistina nei disegni autografi di Casa Buonarroti”.

La mostra è nata da un’idea di Vittorio Sgarbi ed è curata da Cristina Acidini e Alessandro Cecchi. Proporrà al pubblico un cospicuo nucleo di disegni appartenenti a Casa Buonarroti e relativi agli studi per la Cappella Sistina. L’esposizione consentirà di ripercorrere il complesso processo creativo che mi portò a realizzare prima gli affreschi della volta e successivamente, a distanza di anni, il Giudizio Universale sulla parete dell’altare.

La mostra è stata organizzata dal MAG assieme a MetaMorfosi e molto probabilmente fra i disegni esposti sarà presente quello che vi propongo a seguire, relativo alla composizione del Giudizio Universale.

Probabilmente lo realizzai quando ebbi modo di incontrare Clemente VII a San Miniato al Tedesco, nel settembre del 1533. I personaggi, se guardate bene, sono caratterizzati da contorni decisi  e potenti.

Vi faccio notare un’altra cosa assai curiosa che potrebbe esservi sfuggita. In quella fase iniziale ancora avevo in mente di conservare la pala d’altare affrescata dal Perugino. Al centro della composizione, in basso, compare un vuoto: proprio quello spazio sarebbe stato riservato all’opera sua di cui vi ho parlato con dovizia di particolari QUA. 

La prima sezione della mostra è dedicata alla volta. Potremo ammirare gli studi su carta che poi utilizzai per preparare i cartoni degli affreschi come corpi nelle posizioni più diverse, volti, e studi della muscolatura. Fra i disegni più noti i due disegni con gli studi per la Cacciata dal Paradiso terrestre.

Nella seconda parte invece saranno proposti al pubblico gli studi per il Giudizio Universale: dalla composizione pensata all’inizio fino agli studi dei dettagli di alcuni dei protagonisti della grande scena dell’ultimo giorno del mondo.

“Questa mostra propone al visitatore l’opportunità di ammirare dal vero e da vicino fogli antichi di mezzo millennio, che riposano abitualmente nella penombra di un ben protetto caveau nella Casa Buonarroti a Firenze. Un’occasione per entrare direttamente nell’officina mentale e manuale dell’artista, così da immaginare la quantità e la varietà degli studi grafici che dovettero precedere e accompagnare la progettazione dei due murali. Indefinibile, e comunque vasta, è la quantità dei disegni che egli certamente approntò e che non sono giunti fino a noi: o perduti, o donati, o perfino distrutti da lui stesso in vecchiaia”.

Sistine Chapel: my autographed drawings in Riva del Garda

On Friday 5 August at 19:00 the new exhibition “Michelangelo and the Sistine Chapel in the autographed drawings of Casa Buonarroti” will be inaugurated at the Alto Garda Museum.

The exhibition was born from an idea by Vittorio Sgarbi and is curated by Cristina Acidini and Alessandro Cecchi. He will propose to the public a large group of drawings belonging to Casa Buonarroti and relating to the studies for the Sistine Chapel. The exhibition will allow you to retrace the complex creative process that led me to first create the frescoes on the vault and then, years later, the Last Judgment on the altar wall.

The exhibition was organized by MAG together with MetaMorfosi and most likely among the drawings on display there will be the one I propose to follow, relating to the composition of the Last Judgment.

I probably did it when I had the opportunity to meet Clement VII in San Miniato al Tedesco, in September 1533. The characters, if you look closely, are characterized by strong and powerful contours.

I would like to point out another very curious thing that may have escaped you. In that initial phase I still had in mind to keep the altarpiece frescoed by Perugino. At the center of the composition, at the bottom, a void appears: that space would have been reserved for his work of which I have spoken to you in great detail HERE.
