Follia nella Basilica di San Pietro: sale sull’Altare della Confessione e danneggia i candelabri
Momenti concitati quelli vissuti nella basilica di San Pietro ieri mattina. Un uomo è salito sopra l’Altare della Confessione collocato all’ombra del Baldacchino del Bernini.
Dopo aver tolto la tovaglia liturgica, ha scaraventato sul pavimento i sei grandi candelabri risalenti al 1865 che hanno un valore stimato di circa 30mila euro.
Il gesto sconsiderato è stato ripreso dalle numerose persone presenti nella Basilica, entrate nella Basilica in occasione del Giubileo2025.
L’uomo è stato prontamente fermato dalla Gendarmeria Vaticana e consegnato al personale dell’Ispettorato Vaticano. Identificato e denunciato è risultato essere originario della Romania.
Non è la prima volta che all’interno del cuore della cristianità accadono episodi sconsiderati.
Qualcosa di affine successe una manciata di anni fa, il 4 settembre del 2019, quando un cinquantenne di Santa Marinella salì sul medesimo altare e scaraventò a terra un candelabro.
E poi ci fu il terribile attentato alla Pietà Vaticana 21 maggio 1972 che fece tremare i polsi al mondo intero.
Dopo l’episodio di ieri mattina, la tovaglia e i candelabri sono stati ricollocati al loro posto.

Heavy moments were experienced in St. Peter’s Basilica yesterday morning. A man climbed onto the Altar of Confession located in the shadow of Bernini’s Baldachin.
After removing the liturgical tablecloth, he threw the six large candelabra dating back to 1865, which have an estimated value of around 30 thousand euros, onto the floor.
The reckless gesture was filmed by the numerous people present in the Basilica, who entered the Basilica on the occasion of the Jubilee 2025.
The man was promptly stopped by the Vatican Gendarmerie and handed over to the personnel of the Vatican Inspectorate. Identified and reported, he turned out to be originally from Romania.
It is not the first time that reckless episodes have occurred within the heart of Christianity. Something similar happened a few years ago, on September 4, 2019, when a fifty-year-old from Santa Marinella climbed onto the same altar and threw a candelabra to the ground.
