Johannes Vermeer, il celebre pittore olandese, passò a miglior vita il 15 dicembre 1675, a soli 43 anni. Della sua vita sappiamo poco ma quello che è certo è che lasciò a voi posteri capolavori incredibili.

Vermeer nacque a Delft, nei Paesi Bassi, nel 1632, e lì visse e lavorò per tutta la sua esistenza. Dopo la morte del padre, ereditò l’attività di famiglia, che comprendeva una locanda e un negozio di opere d’arte. Nel 1653 si iscrisse alla Gilda di San Luca, la corporazione degli artisti, e iniziò a dedicarsi completamente alla pittura.
