Il prossimo 7 dicembre riaprirà finalmente al pubblico la cattedrale di Notre Dame restaurata, dopo l’incendio che la divorò del 15 aprile 2019.

Le immagini delle fiamme che per ore avvamparono la chiesa sono sempre ben impresse nella mente di tutti. Il crollo della guglia centrale, la devastazione della maggior parte del tetto, una delle torri fortemente danneggiata e quel vigile del fuoco che rimase ferito gravemente non si possono dimenticare.

Ci sono voluti cinque anni di lavori e un’investimento pari a 700milioni per recuperare quanto fosse possibile e ricostruire le parti andate perdute per sempre.

Il 29 novembre, il presidente francese Macron ha visitato in anteprima la cattedrale restaurata ma il 7 dicembre verrà riaperta al pubblico con un’importante cerimonia alla quale è stato invitato anche il presidente della Repubblica Italiana.

Salvo cambi di programma, Mattarella sarà presente e quindi, di conseguenza, non potrà sedersi nel palco reale del Teatro alla Scala per la prima de ‘La Forza del Destino’ di Verdi diretta da Riccardo Chailly

La guglia di Notre Dame è stata ricostruita interamente in legno com’era in origine

Il tetto è stato ricostruito fedele all’originale e poggia su telai lignei. Un lavoro certosino che ha richiesto la mano d’opera di falegnami specializzati e l’utilizzo di metodi di carpenteria che addirittura risalgono al Duecento.

Si parla di tremila tasselli di legno realizzati in soli quattro mesi con essenze di quercia, la stessa tipologia di legno adoperata per i travi portanti.

La ricostruzione della cattedrale è stata eseguita da 2mila artigiani. Alcuni lavori di restauro non sono stati ancora ultimati ma potranno essere proseguiti con la cattedrale aperta al pubblico.

December 7, 2024: Restored Notre Dame reopens to the public

The restored Notre Dame Cathedral will finally reopen to the public on December 7, after the fire that devoured it on April 15, 2019.

The spire of Notre Dame has been rebuilt entirely in wood as it was originally

The roof has been rebuilt faithfully to the original and rests on wooden frames. A meticulous job that required the labor of specialized carpenters and the use of carpentry methods that date back to the thirteenth century.

We are talking about three thousand wooden blocks made in just four months with oak essences, the same type of wood used for the load-bearing beams.

The reconstruction of the cathedral was carried out by 2 thousand craftsmen. Some restoration work has not yet been completed but can be continued with the cathedral open to the public.
