In questa lunetta con gli antenati di Cristo affrescai nella parte sinistra David con Salomon alle sue spalle ancora bambino mentre a destra dipinsi Betasbea, consorte di David.

Il David che scelsi di raffigurare era è un uomo assai più maturo del David che scolpii anni prima in quel di Firenze, non più ragazzo ma già uomo divenuto Re.

Betsabea ha il volto scavato dal lavoro e dalle sofferenze che ha vissuto ed è intenta a filare la lana. Ha uno sguardo mesto rivolto verso il basso mentre Re David pare guardarla con la coda degli occhi, mantenendo una postura composta serpentinata.

Si narra nel Secondo Libro di Samuele della Bibbia che David fosse un uomo divenuto particolarmente freddoloso con l’avanzare dell’età e così preferii abbigliarlo con abiti pesanti che lo coprissero dalla testa ai piedi.

Betsabea invece indossa una camicia più leggera sotto un abito trattenuto in vita da una cintura di corda.

In this lunette with the ancestors of Christ I frescoed David on the left with perhaps Salomon still a child behind him while on the right I painted Betasbea, consort of David.

Bathsheba instead wears a lighter shirt under a dress held at the waist by a rope belt.
