Si intitola ‘L’idea di scultura. Dalla Mano al Robot’ ed è la mostra che aprirà i battenti a Venezia il prossimo 30 agosto, curata Roberta Semeraro insieme a Giovanna Cicutto.

Sarà accessibile fino al 19 novembre 2025 e per l’occasione arriveranno in laguna a Palazzo Bollani, direttamente da Casa Buonarroti, due miei disegni e il bozzetto in terracotta di un torso maschile.

L’esposizione viene realizzata in collaborazione con il Museo dei bozzetti di Pietrasanta e mette in dialogo costante anche i modelli di sculture e le opere dell’artista cubana Helena Bacardi.

Infatti dell’esposizione patrocinata dal Comune di Venezia, del Comune di Pietrasanta e della Regione Toscana, è quella di porre a confronto disegni, bozzetti tridimensionali in vari materiali, opere finite e perfino un robot-scultore “al lavoro”, per raccontare al grande pubblico che cosa è accaduto nella scultura dai tempi del semplice utilizzo della mano degli artigiani fino ai nostri giorni, quando ormai le intelligenze artificiali traducono in oggetti concreti ciò che inizialmente è solo un’idea.

Le mie tre opere per quasi tre mesi rimarranno a Palazzo Bollani di Venezia, nell’ambito della mostra The idea of sculpture. From the hand to the robot.

Il Torso virile che realizzai attorno al 1540 è alto 23 centimetri e nonostante abbia dimensioni modeste, mostra tutta la sua potenza e perfezione anatimica.

Sempre da Casa Buonarroti arriveranno a Venezia due disegni miei: lo Studio per una figura seduta con copricapo ecclesiastico che probabilmente raffigura lo studio per Giulio II da collocare nel primo progetto della sua Tomba. E’ datato attorno al 1524-1525, e lo realizzai con penna e inchiostro bruno. Pensate che quel disegno non viene esposto al pubblico da tre anni.

L’altro disegno è lo Studio di tre nudi per una trasfigurazione che realizzai a penna con inchiostro bruno e matita nera.

Le tre opere mie saranno il punto di partenza dello studio della figura mediante schizzi e bozzetti fino ad arrivare alle evoluzion tecnologiche di cui si avvale oggi il mondo della scultura.

Tra le altre opere in mostra saranno presenti 17 bozzetti provenienti dal Museo dei bozzetti di Pietrasanta appartenenti a Botero, Bezzina, Vangi, Mitoraj, Karavan, Nivola, Capotondi, Giò Pomodoro, Yasuda e Signorini.

Altre 11 sculture più una, speciale, a forma di pipistrello in vetro di Murano, saranno frutto dell’artista cubana Helena Bacardi che espone per la prima volta in Italia nella mostra a Palazzo Bollani di Venezia, in concomitanza con la Biennale di architettura “Intelligens, Natural, Artificial, Collective”.

The Idea of Sculpture: An Exhibition Featuring a Drawing and Two of My Sketches in Venice

Entitled “The Idea of Sculpture. From the Hand to the Robot,” the exhibition will open in Venice on August 30th, curated by Roberta Semeraro and Giovanna Cicutto.

It will be open until November 19, 2025, and for the occasion, two of my drawings and a terracotta sketch of a male torso will be brought to the lagoon at Palazzo Bollani, directly from Casa Buonarroti.

The exhibition is organized in collaboration with the Museo dei Bozzetti in Pietrasanta and also establishes a constant dialogue between sculpture models and the works of Cuban artist Helena Bacardi.

The exhibition, sponsored by the Municipality of Venice, the Municipality of Pietrasanta, and the Region of Tuscany, aims to compare drawings, three-dimensional sketches in various materials, finished works, and even a robot sculptor “at work.” It aims to illustrate to the general public what has happened in sculpture from the time of the simple use of the artisan’s hand to the present day, when artificial intelligence now translates what was initially only an idea into concrete objects.

My three works will remain at Palazzo Bollani in Venice for almost three months, as part of the exhibition “The Idea of Sculpture: From the Hand to the Robot.”

The Male Torso, which I created around 1540, is 23 centimeters tall, and despite its modest dimensions, it displays all its power and anatomical perfection.

Two of my drawings, also from Casa Buonarroti, will be coming to Venice: the Study for a Seated Figure with Ecclesiastical Headdress, which likely depicts the study for Julius II, intended for the first project of his Tomb. It is dated around 1524-1525, and I made it with pen and brown ink. Consider that this drawing hasn’t been exhibited to the public for three years.

The other drawing is the Study of Three Nudes for a Transfiguration, which I made in pen and brown ink and black pencil.

My three works will be the starting point for the study of the figure through sketches and drafts, culminating in the technological advances that are now being made in the world of sculpture.

Among the other works on display are 17 sketches from the Pietrasanta Sketch Museum, belonging to Botero, Bezzina, Vangi, Mitoraj, Karavan, Nivola, Capotondi, Giò Pomodoro, Yasuda, and Signorini.

Another 11 sculptures, plus a special one in the shape of a bat in Murano glass, will be the work of Cuban artist Helena Bacardi, who is exhibiting for the first time in Italy at the Palazzo Bollani in Venice, coinciding with the Architecture Biennale “Intelligens, Natural, Artificial, Collective.”
