Il documentario Il volto di Alessandro. Il restauro del Mosaico di Alessandro e Dario, scritto e diretto da Vanni Gandolfo, è stato presentato in anteprima questa mattina al Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli e verrà trasmesso in prima TV mercoledì 2 aprile alle 21.15 su Rai 5, all’interno di Art Night.
Prodotto da GA&A Productions in associazione con DOCLAB e in collaborazione con Rai Cultura, il documentario offre uno sguardo esclusivo sul complesso restauro del celebre Mosaico di Alessandro e Dario, uno dei più grandi tesori dell’arte antica, custodito al MANN.
Quest’opera straordinaria, rinvenuta a Pompei, raffigura il trionfo di Alessandro Magno su Dario III di Persia e rappresenta una delle fonti più rilevanti per ricostruire le sembianze reali del leggendario condottiero macedone.
Grazie a un approccio interdisciplinare, il restauro ha combinato tecnologie diagnostiche avanzate e metodologie innovative per preservare il mosaico e valorizzarne il significato storico e culturale.
Il documentario esplora la ricerca sul volto “umano” di Alessandro attraverso l’intelligenza artificiale, con il contributo degli studenti dell’Accademia delle Arti e delle Nuove Tecnologie di Roma, che hanno confrontato fonti storiche e iconografiche, tra cui il celebre ritratto di Lisippo.
“Il restauro del Mosaico di Alessandro dimostra come un approccio interdisciplinare, che unisce ricerca, innovazione e metodologie avanzate, sia fondamentale per la conservazione e la piena comprensione di uno straordinario capolavoro dell’antichità. Un intervento che non si limita alla tutela materiale dell’opera, ma ne rafforza il valore storico e culturale, migliorandone la leggibilità e l’accessibilità, affinché possa essere pienamente fruibile all’interno di una narrazione ampia e completa, capace di coinvolgere tutti i pubblici.”, Massimo Osanna, direttore generale dei musei.
Il documentario racconta un’impresa senza precedenti, in cui ricerca e innovazione si intrecciano per restituire al mondo uno dei più grandi capolavori dell’antichità.

The documentary The Face of Alexander. The Restoration of the Mosaic of Alexander and Darius, written and directed by Vanni Gandolfo, was previewed this morning at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples and will be broadcast on first TV on Wednesday 2 April at 9.15 pm on Rai 5, within Art Night.
Produced by GA&A Productions in association with DOCLAB and in collaboration with Rai Cultura, the documentary offers an exclusive look at the complex restoration of the famous Mosaic of Alexander and Darius, one of the greatest treasures of ancient art, kept at the MANN.
This extraordinary work, discovered in Pompeii, depicts the triumph of Alexander the Great over Darius III of Persia and represents one of the most relevant sources for reconstructing the true appearance of the legendary Macedonian leader.
Thanks to an interdisciplinary approach, the restoration combined advanced diagnostic technologies and innovative methodologies to preserve the mosaic and enhance its historical and cultural significance.
The documentary explores research on the “human” face of Alexander through artificial intelligence, with the contribution of students from the Academy of Arts and New Technologies in Rome, who compared historical and iconographic sources, including the famous portrait of Lysippos.
