Michelangelo 550: la nuova rubrica per celebrare i 550 anni dalla mia nascita
Apre oggi la nuova rubrica dal titolo ‘Michelangelo 550’ per ricordare i 550 anni trascorsi dalla mia nascita, avvenuta il 6 marzo del 1475 in quel di Caprese, in provincia di Arezzo.
Come scrisse il Vasari “Al quale Lodovico, essendo podestà quell’anno del castello di Chiusi e Caprese, vicino al sasso della Vernia, dove san Francesco ricevé le stìmate, diocesi aretina, nacque, dico, un figliuolo il sesto dì di marzo, la domenica, intorno all’otto ore di notte, al quale pose nome Michelagnolo…”
Curiosi di sapere di cosa vi parlerò in questo nuovo spazio?
Ho scelto di raccontarvi opere che hanno me per protagonista. Lavori di scultura, pittura, stampa o altre forme d’arte come per esempio la fotografia, che nel corso dei secoli sono stati realizzati per rendere omaggio a me e alla mia arte.
Alcuni che vi proporrò sono opere semi sconosciute come quello di cui vi sto per raccontare oggi mentre altri lavori forse li avrete già visti in passato.

Michelangelo 550: l’incisione che mi ritrae al lavoro nella Cappella Sistina
Ma ora veniamo a noi. L’opera che vi presento e che di fatto inaugura la rubrica Michelangelo 550, è un’incisione di scuola inglese appartenente a una collezione privata, realizzata nella seconda metà dell’Ottocento.
L’artista che l’ha realizzata di cui non sono riuscito a rintracciare in modo alcuno l’identità, ha voluto raffigurarmi mentre ero alle prese con il grande affresco della volta della Cappella Sistina.
Se guardate l’incisione vedrete me che osservo il foglio con il volto del profeta Geremia, già terminato di affrescare.
Questo disegno mi piace molto. Mi mostra concentrato nel mio lavoro, in posizione stante e decisa. A sinistra si vede il tavolinetto sopra il quale ci sono diversi recipienti che contengono i pennelli di varie fogge e grandezze, rivolti con i peli all’insù e pronti per essere usati.
Il piano di calpestio del ponteggio è formato da assi di legno, come in realtà fu quello che davvero percorsi per anni per portare a termine quel grandioso lavoro.

Michelangelo 550: the new column to celebrate the 550th anniversary of my birth
The new column entitled ‘Michelangelo 550’ opens today to commemorate the 550 years that have passed since my birth, which took place on March 6, 1475 in Caprese, in the province of Arezzo.
As Vasari wrote, “To whom Lodovico, being podestà that year of the castle of Chiusi and Caprese, near the rock of Vernia, where Saint Francis received the stigmata, diocese of Arezzo, was born, I say, a son on the sixth day of March, a Sunday, around eight o’clock at night, to whom he gave the name Michelangelo…”

I have chosen to tell you about works that have me as the protagonist. Works of sculpture, painting, printing or other forms of art such as photography, which over the centuries have been created to pay homage to me and my art.

Michelangelo 550: the engraving that portrays me at work in the Sistine Chapel
But now let’s get to us. The work that I present to you and which in fact inaugurates the Michelangelo 550 column, is an engraving of the English school belonging to a private collection, made in the second half of the nineteenth century.
The artist who created it, whose identity I have not been able to trace in any way, wanted to depict me while I was struggling with the great fresco of the Sistine Chapel vault.
If you look at the engraving you will see me looking at the sheet with the face of the prophet Jeremiah, already finished frescoing.
I really like this drawing. It shows me concentrated on my work, in a standing and determined position. On the left you can see the small table on which there are several containers containing brushes of various shapes and sizes, facing upwards, ready to be used.
The walking surface of the scaffolding is made of wooden planks, as in reality was the one I actually walked for years to complete that great work.
