Testa di Medusa del Giambologna: bloccata l’asta dai Carabinieri

A volte fare un po’ di rumore serve eccome. Ho il piacere di comunicarvi che la vendita all’asta della testa di Medusa realizzata dal Giambologna e bottega è stata bloccata dai Carabinieri.

L’asta era prevista per oggi 26 ottobre da Pandolfini a Firenze ma al momento è stata sospesa. Il Nucleo Tutela Patrimonio Artistico dei Carabinieri ha deciso di avviare indagini approfondite per verificarne la provenienza e quindi non potrà esserci alcuna vendita dell’opera fino a quando non sarà stata fatta un po’ di chiarezza.

«Una prima bellissima notizia! Ci auguriamo che possa essere davvero il primo passo per riportare la Medusa a casa, all’interno della Fonte della Fata Morgana. Voglio rivolgere un grandissimo ringraziamento ai Carabinieri, a Neri Torrigiani e Sabina Corsini che hanno messo in moto l’operazione, alla Case d’aste Pandolfini per sensibilità e collaborazione» ha affermato il sindaco di Bagno a Ripoli Francesco Casini.

La Testa di Medusa realizzata nel 1573 era parte integrante della Fonte della Fata Morgana del Giambologna.

L’opera, prima strappata dalla fontana nel corso del Novecento e poi riemersa dopo anni di oblio in una collezione privata nazionale, rischiava di finire all’estero non avendo alcun vincolo.

Head of Medusa by Giambologna: the auction was blocked by the Carabinieri

Sometimes making a little noise really helps. I am pleased to inform you that the auction sale of the head of Medusa created by Giambologna and his workshop was blocked by the Carabinieri.

The auction was scheduled for today 26 October at Pandolfini in Florence but has currently been suspended. The Artistic Heritage Protection Unit of the Carabinieri has decided to launch in-depth investigations to verify its provenance and therefore there will be no sale of the work until some clarification has been achieved.

«Great first news! We hope that it can really be the first step to bring the Medusa home, inside the Source of the Fata Morgana. I want to extend a huge thank you to the Carabinieri, to Neri Torrigiani and Sabina Corsini who set the operation in motion, and to the Pandolfini auction houses for their sensitivity and collaboration” stated the mayor of Bagno a Ripoli Francesco Casini.

The Head of Medusa created in 1573 was an integral part of Giambologna’s Fonte della Fata Morgana. The work, first torn from the fountain during the twentieth century and then re-emerged after years of oblivion in a national private collection, risked ending up abroad as it had no restrictions.
