Nessun disegno mio a punta d’argento
No silver-tipped designs of mine
In my graphic production there is an anomaly that I want to talk to you about.
It is singular that among my first drawings made in the period when I was in Ghiarlandaio’s workshop, between 1487 and 1490, and not even among those of the following period, there is none made with a silver point.
The silver-tipped drawing on prepared paper was a very popular technique at the time and was also commonly used in Ghirlandaio’s workshop.
It is very likely that I too had learned to draw in that way and had made drawings with a silver point. They may have been lost over the centuries who knows how or I burned them in the second part of my life. Maybe.
I probably didn’t like that technique that allowed to obtain very delicate pictorial effects and when I left the shop I didn’t use it anymore, preferring by far ink and pen or other ways to create much stronger contrasts and better shape the muscles.
For the moment, your Michelangelo Buonarroti greets you by giving you an appointment at the next posts and on social networks.
