L’Opera del Natale: Felice Natale di Viggo Johansen
L’opera del Natale che vi propongo oggi è il dipinto a olio su tela di Viggo Johansen ‘Felice Natale’, realizzato nel 1891.
La tela oggi appartenente alla Hirschsprung Collection di Copenhagen, mostra una famiglia danese raccolta attorno all’albero decorato, durante la notte di Natale.
La stanza, avvolta in un’atmosfera notturna, è rischiarata solo dalla luce calda delle candele posizionate sull’abete scintillante. La donna visibile di spalle a destra, tiene per mano i bambini che guardano ammaliati le decorazioni davanti ai loro occhi.
La scena è ricca di dettagli che evocano il giorno del 25 dicembre: l’albero addobbato, i regali sotto l’albero che appena si intravedono e i volti sorridenti e stupiti dei bambini che sognano di trovare ciò che desiderano in quei pacchetti.
L’artista Viggo Johansen scelse con cura i colori, per creare un clima familiare e accogliente.
Il pittore danese Johansen era membro attivo del gruppo di Skagen, che si riuniva ogni estate nel nord della Jutland per dipingere en plein air. ‘Felice Natale’ rappresenta un esempio tipico della produzione artistica di Johansen, caratterizzata da un forte realismo e da un’attenzione particolare alla resa dei dettagli.

The Christmas Artwork: Merry Christmas by Viggo Johansen
The Christmas artwork I am proposing today is the oil painting on canvas by Viggo Johansen ‘Merry Christmas’, made in 1891.
The canvas, now belonging to the Hirschsprung Collection in Copenhagen, shows a Danish family gathered around the decorated tree, during Christmas night.
The room, wrapped in a nocturnal atmosphere, is lit only by the warm light of the candles placed on the sparkling fir tree. The woman visible from behind on the right, holds the children by the hand who are enchanted by the decorations before their eyes.
The scene is full of details that evoke the day of December 25: the decorated tree, the gifts under the tree that can barely be glimpsed and the smiling and amazed faces of the children who dream of finding what they want in those packages.
The artist Viggo Johansen carefully chose the colors, to create a familiar and welcoming atmosphere.
The Danish painter Johansen was an active member of the Skagen group, which gathered every summer in northern Jutland to paint en plein air. ‘Melice Natale’ is a typical example of Johansen’s artistic production, characterized by strong realism and a particular attention to the rendering of details.
