Edvard Munch è stato uno dei protagonisti della storia dell’arte moderna ed è considerato un precursore dell’Espressionismo.

Apre oggi a Milano la più grande retrospettiva a lui dedicata a Palazzo Reale, curata da Patricia G.Berman, una delle più grandi studiose di Munch.

L’esistenza di Munch è stata segnata da grandi drammi. A soli 5 anni perse la madre, la sorella poi il padre e successivamente ebbe una tormentata relazione con Tulla Larsen.

Momenti così dolorosi contribuirono a formare la sua poetica originale e drammatica. Il suo straordinario talento artistico lo portò a dar forma con i colori a volti senza sguardo, paesaggi stralunati a un uso potente e angoscioso del colore.

La mostra dal titolo “Munch. Il dolore interiore” racconta tutto l’universo dell’artista, il suo percorso umano e la sua produzione attraverso cento opere fra le quali una delle versioni litografiche del celebre Urlo del 1895, la morte di Marat, la Notte stellata e Le ragazze sul ponte, giusto per citare alcuni dei capolavori visibili fino al 26 gennaio 2025 a Palazzo Reale.

Ad arricchire la mostra milanese, è previsto un ricco palinsesto di eventi che coinvolgerà diverse realtà culturali della città e che andrà ad approfondire la figura dell’artista e ad espandere i temi delle sue opere.

Nel corso della sua lunga vita Edvard Munch realizzò migliaia di stampe e dipinti.

Essendo tanto un uomo d’immagini quanto di parole, riempì fogli su fogli di annotazioni, aneddoti, lettere e persino una sceneggiatura per il teatro.

L’esposizione ha come tema centrale il ‘grido interiore’ di Munch e il suo voler costruire, attraverso blocchi di colore uniformi e prospettive discordanti, lo scenario per condividere le sue esperienze emotive e sensoriali.

Edvard Munch was one of the protagonists of the history of modern art and is considered a precursor of Expressionism.

The largest retrospective dedicated to him opens today in Milan at Palazzo Reale, curated by Patricia G. Berman, one of the greatest scholars of Munch.

Munch’s existence was marked by great dramas. At just 5 years old he lost his mother, his sister then his father and later had a tormented relationship with Tulla Larsen.

Such painful moments contributed to forming his original and dramatic poetics. His extraordinary artistic talent led him to give shape with colors to gazeless faces, dazed landscapes to a powerful and anguished use of color.

The exhibition entitled “Munch. “Inner Pain” tells the entire universe of the artist, his human journey and his production through one hundred works including one of the lithographic versions of the famous Scream from 1895, the Death of Marat, the Starry Night and The Girls on the Bridge, just to name a few of the masterpieces visible until January 26, 2025 at Palazzo Reale.

To enrich the Milanese exhibition, a rich program of events is planned that will involve different cultural realities of the city and that will deepen the figure of the artist and expand the themes of his works.

During his long life Edvard Munch created thousands of prints and paintings.

Being as much a man of images as of words, he filled pages upon pages of notes, anecdotes, letters and even a script for the theater.

The exhibition has as its central theme Munch’s ‘inner scream’ and his desire to build, through uniform blocks of color and discordant perspectives, the scenario to share his emotional and sensorial experiences.
