Il libro che vi propongo è dedicato alla Cupola del Brunelleschi e agli affreschi realizzati dal mio caro amico Giorgio Vasari e Federico Zuccari.

Gli affreschi furono inaugurati il 19 agosto del 1579 con una grande cerimonia religiosa pubblica e lasciarono tutti gli intervenuti a bocca aperta. Ancora oggi la cupola così affrescata continua a suscitare la stessa meraviglia in chi la vede per la prima volta.

Nel volume pubblicato da Scripta Manent con testi di Mina Gregori, Marco Bussagli e Timothy Verdon è possibile vedere a distanza ravvicinata tutta la superficie pittorica decorata dai due grandi artisti fra il 1572 e il 1579.

Quando ci si trova al di sotto della cupola, è difficile riuscire a scorgere i particolari più minuti dell’affresco posizionato a quell’altezza. Attraverso il ricco apparato fotografico presente nel libro invece si possono distinguere nettamente tutti i personaggi che lo popolano, i mostri, i ritratti delle persone note e anche gli animali raffigurati.

 Pagina dopo pagina vi sembrerà di poter toccare quegli oltre 3.600 metri quadrati affrescati con tanta cura.

Brunelleschi’s Dome: the book

The book that I propose to you is dedicated to Brunelleschi’s Dome and to the frescoes made by my dear friend Giorgio Vasari and Federico Zuccari.
