Il foglio che vi propongo oggi è assai curioso. Sulla carta sono state tracciate nove teste di cui tre sono satiri copiati da originali miei.

Ebbene si, questi disegni non sono di mano mia ma furono realizzati probabilmente da un mio allievo assai abile.

Oltre alle tre figure appena citate, sul foglio dello Städel Museum di Francoforte sono presenti altri sei personaggi privi di connotati tipicamente animaleschi.

Se osservate bene la figura in alto a destra, noterete che indossa uno strano copricapo. Ebbene quella sorta di cappello bislacco veniva proprio fatto indossare ai pazzi, quasi fosse un segno di riconoscimento ben visibile a tutti.

Le teste faunesche si ritrovano con non molta difficoltà fra i disegni miei che sono arrivati fino ai vostri giorni.

Per esempio il satiro al centro è uguale al satiro che tracciai su un foglio adesso conservato a British Museum così come appartiene allo stesso gruppo il satiro a destra. Invece, il satiro a sinistra molto assomiglia a quello che tracciai sul foglio di Lille.

The heads of satyrs and fools

The sheet that I propose to you today is very curious. Inside there are nine heads of which three are satyrs copied from my originals.

Yes, these drawings are not by my hand but were probably made by a very skilled student of mine.

In addition to the three figures just mentioned, on the sheet of the Städel Museum in Frankfurt there are six other characters without typically animalistic connotations.

If you look closely at the upper right figure, you will notice that he is wearing a strange headdress. Well, that sort of weird hat was made to wear to madmen, as if it were a sign of recognition clearly visible to all.

The faunal heads find themselves with little difficulty among my drawings that have come down to your days.

For example, the satyr in the center is the same as the satyr I drew on a sheet now kept in the British Museum, just as the satyr on the right belongs to the same group. Instead, the satyr on the left very much resembles the one I drew on the Lille sheet.
