Le migliori Natività e Adorazioni dei Pastori per questo 24 dicembre
E anche quest’anno siamo giunti alla vigilia di Natale. E’ stato senza dubbio un anno molto complicato e assai diverso da tutti i precedenti. Ci aspettano festività che mai abbiamo vissuto prima con una pandemia in corso. Per l’occasione vi propongo alcune delle Natività che mi piacciono con l’augurio che tutti voi possiate passare momenti sereni in questo strano e complicato Natale 2020.
La Natività di Giotto
La Natività fu affrescata da Giotto fra il 1303 e il 1305 e appartiene al grande ciclo di affreschi della Cappella degli Scrovegni a Padova.
La scena è ambientata in un paesaggio roccioso. Maria è distesa sulla roccia coperta da una struttura in legno e ha appena dato alla luce il Figlio. Lo sta deponendo nella mangiatoia già fasciato con l’aiuto di un’ancella. Il bue e l’asinello sono pronti a scaldare il Piccolo mentre Giuseppe dorme.
La Natività con San Girolamo del Pinturicchio
Nella Cappella del Presepio posizionata nella navata destra di Santa Maria del Popolo a Roma, c’è il ciclo di affreschi dedicato alle storie della Beata Vergine e San Girolamo realizzato da Pinturicchio e bottega.
Sopra l’altare Pinturicchio raffigurò la Natività, incorniciata da un’arcata in marmo finemente scolpito e dorato. La Sacra Famiglia assieme ai pastori e a San Girolamo è in adorazione del Bambino, adagiato su un giaciglio fato con il grano: un evidente richiamo all’Eucarestia.
La Natività di Federico Barocci
Federico Barocci in questa Natività fa un uso straordinario del colore e delle sfumature. Il pittore manierista, nato a Urbino nel 1530, dipinse questo capolavoro nel 1597 su commissione del duca di Urbino Francesco Maria II della Rovere.
Come mai oggi il dipinto appartiene alle collezioni del Museo del Prado? Ebbene, nel 1603 il duca regalò la Natività a Margherita d’Austria, ovvero la moglie di Filippo II di Spagna.
A catturare l’attenzione è la luce emanata dal Bambino che illumina una giovanissima Madonna e le vesti di San Giuseppe. I pastori si limitano ad affacciarsi sulla porta con timore.
L’ Adorazione dei pastori di Bartolomé Esteban Pérez Murillo
Bartolomé Esteban Pérez Murillo dipinse l’Adorazione dei pastori nel 1650. E’ un olio su tela di grande realismo, oggi conservato al Prado di Madrid.
Murillo si formò nella bottega di Juan Castillo dove ebbe modo di conoscere e apprezzare la pittura fiamminga. Nelle sue opere è forte l’influenza di Ribera e Zurubaràn.
Adorazione dei pastori di Luca Cambiaso
Luca Cambiaso dipinge questa splendida Adorazione dei Pastori nel 1550, ben prima della comparsa sulla scena del Caravaggio.
Una scena notturna rischiarata solo dalla presenza del Bambino che illumina i volti e le vesti di Giuseppe, Maria e dei pastori in adorazione.

The best Nativity and Adoration of the Shepherds for this December 24th
And this year too we have reached Christmas Eve. It was undoubtedly a very complicated year and very different from all the previous ones. Holidays await us that we have never experienced before with an ongoing pandemic. For the occasion, I offer you some of the Nativity scenes that I like with the hope that all of you can spend peaceful moments in this strange and complicated Christmas 2020.
Giotto’s Nativity
The Nativity was frescoed by Giotto between 1303 and 1305 and belongs to the great cycle of frescoes in the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua.
The scene is set in a rocky landscape. Mary is lying on the rock covered by a wooden structure and she has just given birth to her Son. She is placing him in the manger already wrapped up with the help of a handmaid. The ox and the donkey are ready to warm the baby while Joseph sleeps.
The Nativity with Saint Jerome by Pinturicchio
In the Presepio Chapel located in the right aisle of Santa Maria del Popolo in Rome, there is the cycle of frescoes dedicated to the stories of the Blessed Virgin and Saint Jerome created by Pinturicchio and workshop.
Above the altar Pinturicchio depicted the Nativity, framed by a finely carved and gilded marble arch. The Holy Family together with the shepherds and Saint Jerome are in adoration of the Child, lying on a bed made with wheat: an evident reference to the Eucharist.
The Nativity by Federico Barocci
Federico Barocci in this Nativity makes an extraordinary use of color and shades. The Mannerist painter, born in Urbino in 1530, painted this masterpiece in 1597 on commission from the Duke of Urbino Francesco Maria II della Rovere.
Why does the painting now belong to the collections of the Prado Museum? Well, in 1603 the duke gave the Nativity to Margaret of Austria, or the wife of Philip II of Spain.
What captures the attention is the light emanating from the Child which illuminates a very young Madonna and the clothes of Saint Joseph. The shepherds just look out the door with fear.
The Adoration of the Shepherds by Bartolomé Esteban Pérez Murillo
Bartolomé Esteban Pérez Murillo painted the Adoration of the Shepherds in 1650. It is an oil on canvas of great realism, now kept in the Prado in Madrid.
Murillo trained in Juan Castillo’s workshop where he got to know and appreciate Flemish painting. In his works the influence of Ribera and Zurubaràn is strong.
Adoration of the Shepherds by Luca Cambiaso
Luca Cambiaso painted this splendid Adoration of the Shepherds in 1550, well before Caravaggio appeared on the scene. A nocturnal scene illuminated only by the presence of the Child who illuminates the faces and clothes of Joseph, Mary and the shepherds in adoration.
