Standing ovation e teatro tutto esaurito per Roberto Saviano che, nel Politeama di Prato, ha inaugurato la serie di incontri proposti da ‘Seminare Idee Festival’, in dialogo con Sandro Veronesi sul tema ‘Nessuna bilancia pesa il coraggio’.

Il leit motiv di questa prima edizione del festival pratese è il coraggio e dunque non poteva che essere aperto in grande stile da Saviano, da 19 anni sotto scorta con tutto ciò che ne consegue.

Il lungo applauso che ha accolto Roberto non appena si è presentato sul proscenio, è stato un abbraccio e un sentito grazie per l’impegno e per la tenacia che ha dimostrato di avere in tutti questi anni, nonostante gli attacchi, nonostante i troppi detrattori, nonostante gli insulti da una parte di politica e per il tipo di vita che è costretto a fare.

“Questo è l’applauso che la mia città riserva a questo ragazzo e a quelli che lo proteggono”, esordisce Veronesi che Saviano lo conosce da anni e spesso lo accompagna per sostenerlo durante le udienze in tribunale.

Osservo le suole delle scarpe: nuovissime come ha detto più volte. Dio solo sa quanto gli piacerebbe consumarle camminando liberamente per ore, ma non può. Da uomo libero vivere in gabbia non è cosa semplice, farlo per quasi vent’anni è disumano.

Roberto ha raccontato la storia di Rossella Casini, la giovanissima ragazza fiorentina vittima di ’ndrangheta fatta scomparire nel nulla in modo atroce. Una vicenda devastante, che squarcia e lascia il segno. Ebbe il coraggio di amare e il suo slancio non si fermò mai dinanzi a nulla, nemmeno quanto tutto ormai stava andando a rotoli e il fidanzato Franceso Frisina, senza troppi scrupoli, a lei aveva chiaramente preferito la famiglia d’origine.

Si, perché il coraggio si paga sempre e spesso a caro prezzo. Saviano ne è testimone diretto.

L’ultimo libro di Saviano dal titolo ‘L’amore mio non muore’, fa riemergere una storia perduta nelle carte dei tribunali e diventa per l’autore presto per fare un’analisi sull’amore.

Veronesi ha messo sul piatto la paura, quella che fa stare in allerta e aiuta a evitare pericoli. E’ la radice del coraggio in fin dei conti e incalza Saviano a parlarne, a mettersi a nudo. All’inizio, come narra l’autore di Gomorra, c’è stata l’ambizione dello scrivere, o meglio, del far conoscere a tutti attraverso la scrittura storie che non arrivavano alla stampa nazionale o se lo facevano, in modo molto marginale.

La paura, come afferma Roberto, se l’avesse ascoltata, forse oggi gli avrebbe concesso di vivere una vita diversa, decisamente ordinaria ma libera.

Vorrebbe provare a liberarsi di quelle catene che talvolta gli tolgono il fiato: ci ha provato ma non è andata benissimo. Come dice Aristotele, ciascuno di noi ha dentro di sé un demone, un fuoco sacro che o lo assecondi o ti travolge.

Forse la patente guida che sta conseguendo per il camion è un pezzetto di speranza per una vita futura fuori dal recinto.

Se lunga era la coda dei partecipanti all’evento, altrettanto lunga è quella per il firmacopie. Roberto Saviano scambia qualche parola con tutti, stringe le mani e firma libri per decine e decine di minuti, donando a tutti un sorriso.

Seminare Idee Festival

Iniziato ieri 6 giugno, il festival proseguirà la sua serie di imperdibili appuntamenti sabato 7 e domenica 8 giugno.

Ideato e diretto da Annalisa Fattori e Paola Nobile, Seminare Idee Festival propone tre giornate di conferenze, dialoghi, spettacoli, letture e laboratori nel centro storico di Prato, nei sui teatri, musei, piazze e palazzi storici.

Sono previsti in totale 31 appuntamenti, tutti completamente gratuiti perché, come dice la sindaca di Prato Ilaria Bugetti, la cultura deve essere accessibile a tutti.

In un momento in cui il pensiero libero, l’esporsi con i propri pensieri e prendere posizione vengono attenzionati e spesso bersagliati, è più che mai necessario fare tesoro di ogni occasione di incontro e confronto.

Tra i prossimi appuntamenti in calendario per i prossimi giorni, vi segnalo Francesca Mannocchi domenica 8 giugno con l’incontro ‘Guardare la guerra negli occhi’, Milena Gabanelli che presenterà il suo ultimo libro ‘Codice Rosso’ scritto con Simona Ravizza e Massimo Ammanniti, tra i massimi esperti dell’età evolutiva che affronterà il coraggio di crescere negli adolescenti.

Saviano and Courage: ‘Seminare Idee Festival’ in Prato

Standing ovation and sold-out theater for Roberto Saviano who, in the Politeama of Prato, inaugurated the series of meetings proposed by ‘Seminare Idee Festival’, in dialogue with Sandro Veronesi on the theme ‘No scale weighs courage’.

The leitmotif of this first edition of the Prato festival is courage and therefore it could only be opened in grand style by Saviano, under escort for 19 years with all that that entails.

The long applause that greeted Roberto as soon as he appeared on the stage was a hug and a heartfelt thank you for his commitment and for the tenacity he has shown in all these years, despite the attacks, despite too many detractors, despite the insults from a part of politics and despite the life he is forced to lead.

“This is the applause that my city reserves for this boy and for those who protect him,” begins Veronesi, who has known Saviano for years and often accompanies him, supporting him during court hearings.

I look at the soles of his shoes: brand new as he has said many times. God only knows how much he would like to wear them out by walking freely for hours, but he can’t do it. As a free man, living in a cage is not easy, doing it for almost twenty years is inhumane.

Roberto told the story of Rossella Casini, the very young Florentine girl who was a victim of the ’ndrangheta and who disappeared into thin air in an atrocious, devastating way. She had the courage to love and her enthusiasm never stopped at anything, not even when everything was falling apart and her boyfriend Francesco Frisina, without too many scruples, had clearly preferred her family of origin to her.

Yes, because courage always comes at a high price, often. Saviano experiences it on his skin every day.

Saviano’s latest book, entitled ‘L’amore mio non muore’, tells the story of Rossella Casini, bringing to the surface a story lost in the court papers and becomes too early for the author to make an analysis on love.

Veronesi wanted to put fear on the table, the one that keeps you alert and helps you avoid dangers. It is the root of courage after all and he urges Saviano to talk about it, to lay himself bare. At the beginning, as the author of Gomorrah tells us, there is the ambition to write, or rather, to let everyone know through writing stories that did not reach the national press or if they did, in a very marginal way.

Fear, as Roberto says, if he had listened to it, perhaps today he would have allowed himself to live a different life, decidedly ordinary but free.

He would like to try to free himself from those chains that sometimes take his breath away: he tried but it didn’t go very well. As Aristotle says, each of us has a demon inside us, a sacred fire that either indulges it or overwhelms us.

Who knows, maybe the driver’s license he is getting for the truck is a piece of a hoped-for future life.

If the queue of participants at the event was long, the one for the book signing was equally long. Roberto Saviano exchanges a few words with everyone, shakes hands and signs books for dozens and dozens of minutes, giving everyone a smile.
