Arezzo, la città natale del mio caro amico Giorgio Vasari, rende omaggio all’artista, all’intellettuale e allo scrittore in occasione dei 450 anni dalla sua morte con una mostra tutta da scoprire.

Attraverso la sua arte, Vasari trasformò la dimora in cui viveva in un concentrato di decori, arredi ricercati e affreschi rendendo la sua casa non solo un capolavoro ma anche un manifesto del nuovo ruolo sociale dell’artista e dell’architetto, intellettuale e cortigiano. 

Da domenica 8 settembre il Museo Statale di Casa Vasari ad Arezzo in via XX Settembre ospiterà la mostra “Il disegno fu lo imitare il più bello della natura. La casa, i disegni, le idee: Giorgio Vasari e la figura dell’intellettuale architetto” che racconterà la poliedrica forma mentis del genio aretino attraverso le stanze che lo accolsero durante la sua vita.

L’esposizione è curata da Emanuela Ferretti e Rossella Sileno con il contributo scientifico dell’Università degli Studi di Firenze, Master Museo Italia – Dipartimento di Architettura e il contributo di FSC® ITALIA.

Lungo il percorso il visitatore potrà apprezzare a distanza ravvicinata disegni, manoscritti, modelli e opere in rapporto con le decorazioni pittoriche della Casa e con la poetica vasariana.

La genealogia artistica di Vasari sarà approfondita nella Camera della Fama e delle Arti con un particolare focus sull’architettura mentre il significato allegorico degli affreschi della Camera di Apollo e delle Muse così come il complesso con Cosimo I saranno messi in luce grazie all’Apollo di Willem van de Tetrode proveniente per l’occasione dalle Gallerie degli Uffizi.

La mostra rimarrà aperta al pubblico fino al 2 febbraio 2025.

“Drawing was the imitation of the most beautiful thing in nature”: the exhibition dedicated to Giorgio Vasari opens at Casa Vasari in Arezzo

Arezzo, the birthplace of my dear friend Giorgio Vasari pays homage to the artist, intellectual and writer on the occasion of the 450th anniversary of his death with an exhibition to be discovered.

Through his art, Vasari transformed the house in which he lived into a concentration of decorations, refined furnishings and frescoes making his house not only a masterpiece but also a manifesto of the new social role of the artist and architect, intellectual and courtier.

From Sunday 8 September the State Museum of Casa Vasari in Arezzo in via XX Settembre will host the exhibition “Drawing was the imitation of the most beautiful thing in nature. The house, the drawings, the ideas: Giorgio Vasari and the figure of the intellectual architect” which will tell the multifaceted forma mentis of the genius from Arezzo through the rooms that welcomed him during his life.

The exhibition is curated by Emanuela Ferretti and Rossella Sileno with the scientific contribution of the University of Florence, Master Museo Italia – Department of Architecture and the contribution of FSC® ITALIA.

Along the route, visitors will be able to appreciate at close range drawings, manuscripts, models and works in relation to the pictorial decorations of the House and to Vasari’s poetics.

Vasari’s artistic genealogy will be explored in the Chamber of Fame and the Arts with a particular focus on architecture while the allegorical meaning of the frescoes of the Chamber of Apollo and the Muses as well as the complex with Cosimo I will be highlighted thanks to Willem van de Tetrode’s Apollo coming for the occasion from the Uffizi Galleries.

The exhibition will remain open to the public until February 2, 2025.
