Genova sta per aprire la stagione espositiva la mostra “Artemisia Gentileschi. Coraggio e passione” allestita nell’Appartamento del Doge di Palazzo Ducale.

Il percorso espositivo curato da Costantino D’Orazio pone l’attenzione sulle vicende private familiari e il percorso personale di crescita che ha segnato la vita ma anche la produzione artistica della pittrice Artemisia Gentileschi, grande amica del mio pronipote Michelangelo Buonarroti il Giovane.

Non a caso vi cito il mio erede. Fra le oltre 50 opere provenienti da diverse istituzioni europee e statunitensi, sarà presente anche l’Allegoria dell’Inclinazione arrivata per l’occasione da Casa Buonarroti.

L’opera, appena restaurata da Elizabet Wicks mediante il progetto Artemisia UpClose, fu commissionata all’artista da Michelangelo Buonarroti il Giovane per decorare quella che oggi è chiamata Galleria di Casa Buonarroti e che celebra la mia esistenza.

Sapendo le condizioni di grande difficoltà in cui versava l’artista ma riconoscendone anche l’indiscutibile talento, il mio pronipote pagò l’opera una cifra astronomica con l’intento di aiutarla a risollevarsi.

Oltre alle opere di Artemisia, la mostra proporrà una panoramica della scena artistica femminile dell’epoca e non mancherà un’intera sezione curata da Anna Orlando in cuo verrà raccontata la rivoluzione artistica portata a Genova da Orazio Gentileschi, il babbo di Artemisia.

Il percorso espositivo si snoderà in dieci sezioni partendo dagli esordi di una giovanissima Artemisia fino alle opere della maturità.

La mostra “Artemisia Gentileschi. Coraggio e passione” aprirà i battenti al pubblico dal 16 novembre fino al 1 aprile 2024.

Artemisia Gentileschi, courage and passion at Palazzo Ducale

Genoa is about to open the exhibition season with the exhibition “Artemisia Gentileschi. Courage and passion” set up in the Doge’s Apartment in the Doge’s Palace.

The exhibition itinerary curated by Costantino D’Orazio focuses on the private family events and the personal growth path that marked the life but also the artistic production of the painter Artemisia Gentileschi, a great friend of my great-grandson Michelangelo Buonarroti the Younger.

The work, just restored by Elizabet Wicks through the Artemisia UpClose project, was commissioned to the artist by Michelangelo Buonarroti the Younger to decorate what is now called the Galleria di Casa Buonarroti and which celebrates my existence.

Knowing the conditions of great difficulty in which the artist found himself but also recognizing his indisputable talent, my great-grandson paid an astronomical sum for the work with the intention of helping him recover.

In addition to Artemisia’s works, the exhibition will offer an overview of the female artistic scene of the time and there will be an entire section curated by Anna Orlando in which the artistic revolution brought to Genoa by Orazio Gentileschi, Artemisia’s father, will be told.

The exhibition itinerary will unfold in ten sections starting from the beginnings of a very young Artemisia up to the works of her maturity.

The exhibition “Artemisia Gentileschi. Courage and passion” will open its doors to the public from 16 November until 1 April 2024.
