Le Opere del Natale: l’Adorazione dei Pastori di George de La Tour
L’Opera del Natale che vi propongo oggi è l’Adorazione dei Pastori dipinta a olio su tela da Georges de La Tour nel 1644.
Il dipinto appartiene al Museo del Louvre e raffigura il momento in cui i pastori, dopo aver ricevuto la notizia della nascita del Salvatore, si precipitarono a Betlemme per andare a rendergli omaggio, così come è narrato nel Vangelo di Luca.
La Tour sceglie di ambientare la scena in piena notte, rischiarata dalla luce della candela che tiene in mano San Giuseppe.
Gesù Bambino fasciato dorme tranquillo nella mangiatoia mentre attorno a lui si accalcano i pastori, la Madonna e e San Giuseppe. Osservate con quanta delicatezza l’agnellino porge al Bambino un ramoscello. Lo tiene con la bocca e potrebbe forse essere un rametto di olivo.
Questo dipinto fu ritrovato nel 1926 ad Amsterdam e attribuita in un promo momento al Voss. Fu subito acquistata subito dopo dal Museo del Louvre.
Nella zona destra l’opera è assai rovinata, soprattutto verso il basso. La zona della mangiatoia e quella dove probabilmente erano visibili prima i piedi di San Giuseppe nel corso dei secoli si sono molto deteriorati.

The Works of Christmas: the Adoration of the Shepherds by George de La Tour
The Christmas Work that I propose to you today is the Adoration of the Shepherds painted in oil on canvas by Georges de La Tour in 1644.
The painting belongs to the Louvre Museum and depicts the moment in which the shepherds, after receiving the news of the Savior’s birth, rushed to Bethlehem to pay him homage, as narrated in the Gospel of Luke.
La Tour chooses to set the scene in the middle of the night, illuminated by the light of the candle that St. Joseph is holding in his hand.
Swaddled Baby Jesus sleeps peacefully in the manger while the shepherds, the Madonna and St. Joseph throng around him. Observe how delicately the little lamb hands the Child a twig. He holds it with his mouth and it could perhaps be an olive branch.
This painting was found in 1926 in Amsterdam and at one time attributed to Voss. It was immediately purchased soon after by the Louvre Museum.
In the right area the work is badly damaged, especially towards the bottom. The area of the manger and the one where the feet of St. Joseph were probably visible before have deteriorated greatly over the centuries.
