La scultura del giorno che vi propongo oggi è la Giovane Cacciatrice scolpita da James Pradier nel 1830.

Lo scultore dimostra grande virtuosismo, offrendo una visione di grazia e delicatezza in quest’opera. La donna è semi distesa sopra una pelle di leone. Con una gamba piegata si appoggia sul gomito destro per sostenere il busto. Con la mano sinistra tiene una lepre per i piedi, mostrando così allo spettatore la bellezza dell’animale.

Osservando con attenzione la posa dell’animale si vede che è tutt’altro che morto: guardate soprattutto le zampe, il capo girato come per cercare una via di fuga e la tensione del corpo che non penzola senza forza, tutt’altro.

La punta del piede destro purtroppo nel corso degli anni ha subito un importante danneggiamento.

Di altissima qualità esecutiva, la giovane cacciatrice seduce per la delicatezza con cui è stata lavorata. Il marmo presenta delle venature naturali che disegnano delle linee sul corpo della giovane.

In una lettera datata 15 novembre 1824, lo scultore Pradier scrisse al conte di Forbin:

“…ho anche tre opere nel Salone (purtroppo poco illuminate): il busto di Luigi XVIII coronato da un ulivo in bellissimo marmo di Paros, una Psiche dello stesso marmo e una Giovane Cacciatrice in gesso, per le quali chiedo ancora la vostra gentilezza che lo facciate acquistare da Sua Eccellenza il Ministro della Casa del Re”.

L’anno successivo lo Stato francese donò all’artista il marmo per poter scolpire la Giovane Cacciatrice a riposo.

L’opera fu realizzata da Pradier a Roma e poi inviata in Francia.

La scultura è firmata e datata dallo scultore con la dicitura ‘J. PRADIER. 1830’ ed è custodita presso il Musée des Beaux arts a Quimper.

“…I also worked in the Salon (unfortunately poorly lit): the bust of Louis XVIII crowned by an olive tree in beautiful Paros marble, a Psyche of the same marble and a Young Huntress in plaster, for the quality of its heart still has your gentle touch have it purchased by His Excellency the Minister of the King’s Household”.

The following year the French State donated the marble to the entire artist so that he could then teach The Young Huntress at Rest.

The work was created by Pradier in Rome and was invited to France.

The sculpture is solid and the data of the sculpture with the words “J. PRAYER. 1830′ and is kept at the Musée des Beaux arts in Quimper.
